    How many exams are in the combined programme?

    Two separate EXIN exams. You sit and pass the Foundation exam first, then the Practitioner exam, to hold both credentials. The combined training prepares you for both across the programme.

    What is the format of the Foundation exam?

    The Foundation exam has 40 single-answer multiple-choice questions, lasts 60 minutes, and is closed book. The pass mark is 65 per cent, which is 26 out of 40 correct. It tests knowledge and comprehension across 14 topic areas.

    How does the Practitioner exam differ?

    The Practitioner exam also has 40 questions in 60 minutes, closed book, with a 65 per cent pass mark (26 out of 40). The difference is that its questions are scenario-based, testing how you apply business analysis techniques across seven topic areas in realistic project situations.

    Do I need to pass Foundation before Practitioner?

    The EXIN BCS Foundation Certificate is the recommended prerequisite for the Practitioner level. The combined programme is designed to be taken in sequence, so you build Foundation knowledge first, then apply it at Practitioner level.

    Where can I take the EXIN BCS exams?

    Both exams are available online through EXIN's online proctored system or at an EXIN accredited testing location. They are typically arranged through your accredited training provider as part of the combined package.

    What if I do not pass the first time?

    You can re-sit an EXIN exam by purchasing a new voucher; verify the current re-sit policy with EXIN. Our training includes mock exams and practice questions for both levels to help you prepare thoroughly before you sit each exam.

    Course Content

    What topics does the Foundation level cover?

    The Foundation level covers 14 topic areas, including what business analysis is, competencies, strategy analysis, investigation techniques, stakeholder analysis, process modelling, requirements engineering, solution definition and business case development, all at a knowledge and comprehension level.

    What does the Practitioner level cover?

    The Practitioner level covers seven topic areas focused on applying business analysis in practice: rationale for BA, strategic context, current situation analysis, stakeholder management, modelling business activities, identifying solutions and building the business case, all assessed through scenarios.

    Do I need prior experience to take this course?

    No. The EXIN BCS Foundation level has no formal prerequisites and is open to all, so beginners are welcome. The Practitioner level builds on Foundation knowledge and is designed for applying BA skills, which the training supports with hands-on practice.

    What learning materials are provided?

    You receive EXIN BCS aligned courseware, industry-driven case studies, practice questions and mock exams for both the Foundation and Practitioner levels, plus post-training support to reinforce your learning.

    Is the courseware aligned to the latest standard?

    Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current EXIN BCS Foundation and Practitioner Examination Specifications and the BCS Business Analysis Body of Knowledge, which BCS quality-assures as the UK's chartered professional body for IT.
