What Is the Observability Foundation Certification?Your Route into Modern Observability

The Observability Foundation (OBSF) is a vendor-neutral credential from the DevOps Institute that validates your ability to understand a system's internal state from the telemetry it produces. Observability Foundation certification training in Switzerland gives DevOps, SRE and platform engineers a structured, exam-focused route to this globally recognised qualification. Delivered by Invensis Learning, a PeopleCert (DevOps Institute) Authorized Training Provider, the 16-hour programme is aligned to the current Observability Foundation Exam Blueprint (Body of Knowledge). You learn the three pillars of observability, metrics, logs and distributed traces, along with OpenTelemetry, SLIs, SLOs, error budgets and modern incident response. As Swiss banks, insurers and tech firms standardise observability across cloud-native platforms, certified specialists are in strong demand from Zurich to Geneva. The open-book OBSF exam has 40 questions in 60 minutes with a 65% pass mark, and this course prepares you to sit it with confidence. Start your observability journey with Invensis Learning.

Invensis Learning is a Peoplecert Accredited Training Organization (2778) in Switzerland, approved to deliver official Observability Foundation training using accredited courseware and standards.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

The Observability Foundation (OBSF) is a vendor-neutral credential from the DevOps Institute that validates a foundational understanding of observability concepts, practices and tools. It covers the three pillars of metrics, logs and traces, plus SLIs, SLOs, OpenTelemetry and organisational practices.

    General

What is the Observability Foundation certification?

The Observability Foundation (OBSF) is a vendor-neutral credential from the DevOps Institute that validates a foundational understanding of observability concepts, practices and tools. It covers the three pillars of metrics, logs and traces, plus SLIs, SLOs, OpenTelemetry and organisational practices.

Is the Observability Foundation certification worth it in Switzerland?

Yes. Swiss banks, insurers, pharma and tech firms are standardising observability across cloud-native platforms, and SRE and senior DevOps roles command strong pay from CHF 125K upward. A recognised credential helps you stand out in a market with a widening ICT skills gap.

Who should take the OBSF certification?

It suits DevOps engineers, SREs, platform engineers, software developers and technical leads who want to formalise their observability knowledge. It is equally useful for managers overseeing observability tooling, SLO frameworks and incident response.

Are there any prerequisites for Observability Foundation?

No. There are no formal prerequisites and the certification is open to all. Familiarity with DevOps concepts or IT operations is helpful but not required, and the training builds the knowledge you need from the ground up.

How long is the OBSF certification valid?

The Observability Foundation certification is valid for three years. To renew, you earn the required Continuing Education Units (CEUs) through DevOps Institute membership and continuing education activities within each three-year cycle.

    Pricing

How much does Observability Foundation training cost in Switzerland?

Fees vary by delivery format and schedule, so pricing is available on request. Live virtual and corporate options are quoted individually. Request a quote or talk to a learning advisor for current Switzerland pricing.

What is included in the OBSF course fee?

The training fee typically includes blueprint-aligned courseware, industry case studies, mock exams and practice questions, and dedicated learner support. Exam voucher inclusion can vary, so please confirm when you enrol.

Is the exam fee included in the training price?

Exam inclusion depends on the package you choose. The DevOps Institute exam is delivered through PeopleCert, and pricing varies by region and channel. Ask our team to confirm whether the exam is bundled with your training.

Do you offer corporate or group discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for platform teams, SRE functions and whole engineering departments. Contact us for a tailored group quote.

What payment methods and options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

What is the format of the Observability Foundation exam?

The OBSF exam has 40 single-answer multiple-choice questions to be completed in 60 minutes. It is an open-book exam based on the DevOps Institute Observability Foundation Exam Blueprint (Body of Knowledge).

What is the passing score for the OBSF exam?

You need 65% to pass, which is 26 correct answers out of 40 questions. The training includes mock exams and practice questions so you can build broad mastery across all the exam topics.

How is the Observability Foundation exam delivered?

The exam is delivered online with remote proctoring via PeopleCert OnVUE, or at an authorised test centre. The DevOps Institute partners with PeopleCert for exam delivery.

What topics does the OBSF exam cover?

The exam covers observability principles and the three pillars, metrics, logs and distributed tracing, SLIs, SLOs, SLAs and error budgets, OpenTelemetry and telemetry pipelines, alerting and incident response, and SRE and AIOps concepts.

What if I do not pass on the first attempt?

You can resit the exam, and our training is designed to prepare you for a first-attempt pass with mock exams and practice questions. Selected plans include flexi options to retake the training. Ask our team about the support available.

    Course Content

What will I learn in the Observability Foundation course?

You will learn observability versus monitoring, the three pillars in practice, SLIs, SLOs and error budgets, OpenTelemetry and telemetry pipelines, modern alerting and incident response, and how observability supports mature SRE and AIOps practice.

How long is the OBSF training programme?

The instructor-led programme runs for 16 hours, typically delivered as two full days or four half-days. It covers all six Observability Foundation modules and prepares you for the 40-question exam.

Do I need prior DevOps experience to take the course?

No prior experience is required. Familiarity with DevOps or IT operations helps, but the course is beginner-friendly and builds concepts step by step, so newcomers to observability can follow comfortably.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes mock exams, practice questions and case studies mapped to the 40-question, open-book exam format, helping you identify weak areas and build exam readiness.
