What Is the PMI-RMP Certification?Thailand's Route to Project Risk Leadership

The PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) is the Project Management Institute's specialist credential for professionals who identify, assess and control risk on projects and programmes. PMI-RMP certification training in Thailand prepares you to turn threats into managed outcomes and opportunities into value, using the risk practices employers across Bangkok and the Eastern Economic Corridor increasingly expect. The programme is built on PMI's Examination Content Outline (ECO) effective January 2022 and the PMI Practice Standard for Project Risk Management. It covers all five exam domains, from Risk Strategy and Planning through to Monitor and Close Risks, across predictive, agile and hybrid delivery. You learn qualitative and quantitative analysis, response planning and risk monitoring, and you practise for the 115-question, closed-book exam. The credential suits project risk managers, senior project managers, PMO analysts and consultants in banking, construction, energy and technology. As Basel III reforms tighten governance and megaproject pipelines expand, certified risk specialists are scarce and sought after. Start your PMI-RMP journey with Invensis Learning and move from study to certified with a clear, supported path.

How to Get PMI-RMP Certified in ThailandStep-by-Step Certification Process

The PMI-RMP certification path in Thailand is a pure exam track: once your PMI application is approved, you proceed directly to the 115-question, 150-minute exam administered through Pearson VUE , no peer-panel review is required. From initial training to exam day typically takes 6-10 weeks, including application processing.

    Step 1: Confirm PMI-RMP Eligibility

Verify you meet one of the three eligibility sets. Set A: high school or secondary school diploma (or global equivalent) + 36 months / 3 years of project risk management experience within the last 5 years + 40 hours of project risk management education. Set B: bachelor's degree or higher (or global equivalent) + 24 months / 2 years of project risk management experience within the last 5 years + 30 hours of project risk management education. Set C: bachelor's degree or higher from a GAC-accredited program + 12 months / 1 year of project risk management experience within the past 5 years + 30 hours of project risk management education. Education hours must be in project risk management topics specifically.

Step 2: Enroll in a Learning Program

Choose a learning format that aligns with your schedule and goals, such as a PMI-RMP bootcamp, live virtual sessions, self-paced learning, or corporate group training. Enrollment provides access to PMI-aligned courseware, practice assessments, and expert-led guidance.

Step 3: Register on the PMI Candidate Portal

Create or sign in to your PMI account at pmi.org. PMI membership (~$139/year) is optional but reduces the PMI-RMP exam fee from ~$670 to ~$520 and gives access to the PMI Risk Management Practice Guide and the PMI Standard for Risk Management.

Step 4: Submit the PMI-RMP Application to PMI

Submit your application via the PMI candidate portal: document your project risk management experience, list your 30 or 40 contact hours, and pay the application/exam fee (~$520 PMI member or ~$670 non-member). PMI typically processes applications within 5-10 business days. Unlike PfMP, no peer-panel review is required.

Step 5: Sit the 115-Question PMI-RMP Exam via Pearson VUE

Once approved, you receive a one-year exam eligibility window. Book your PMI-RMP exam through Pearson VUE , online proctored from your home or office in Thailand, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. The exam is 115 multiple-choice and scenario questions over 150 minutes, covering all five risk management domains.

Step 6: Earn the PMI-RMP Credential and Plan CCR Renewal

On passing, PMI issues your PMI-RMP digital badge and certificate. The credential is valid for three years; renew via PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) programme by earning 30 PDUs in risk-relevant content across the 3-year cycle.

The Risk Management Skills You Will BuildAcross All Five PMI-RMP Domains

Skills covered in PMI-RMP training span the full project risk lifecycle. By the end of the programme you can set a risk strategy, identify and analyse risk, plan responses, and monitor exposure with the tools and techniques employers expect.

Set the Risk Strategy and Plan

Establish the risk management approach, framework and thresholds for a project. You will learn to analyse the project environment, confirm risk appetite, and document a fit-for-purpose risk management plan across predictive, agile and hybrid delivery.

    Identify Threats and Opportunities

Run structured identification using brainstorming, the Delphi technique, SWOT, assumption and constraint analysis and prompt lists. You will build a clear, complete risk register that captures both threats and opportunities in cause-risk-effect form.

    Analyse Risk Qualitatively and Quantitatively

Prioritise risks with a probability and impact matrix, then apply Monte Carlo simulation, decision tree analysis, sensitivity analysis and expected monetary value. You will present results with tornado diagrams, heat maps and S-curves that leaders can act on.

    Plan and Implement Risk Responses

Select response strategies for threats (avoid, transfer, mitigate, accept) and opportunities (exploit, share, enhance, accept). You will build contingency and fallback plans, set reserves, and integrate responses into the project plan and baselines.

    Monitor and Close Risks

Track residual and secondary risks, watch for trigger conditions, and run periodic risk reviews. You will report on changing risk exposure to stakeholders and close risks with lessons learned captured for future projects.

    Prepare for the PMI-RMP Exam

Practise against the 115-question, 2.5-hour, closed-book format using questions mapped to the ECO effective January 2022. You will also learn how to document your risk experience and education for the PMI application.

    General

Is the PMI-RMP worth it for professionals in Thailand?

Yes. PMI-RMP proves specialist project risk expertise, and certified risk professionals are scarce in Thailand as Basel III rules tighten and megaprojects expand. It supports senior roles like project risk manager and head of risk, where risk management managers earn around THB 1.75M a year. Talk to a learning advisor to plan your path.

What is the PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP)?

The PMI-RMP is the Project Management Institute's specialist certification in project risk management. It recognises expertise in assessing and identifying project risks, mitigating threats, and capitalising on opportunities, and it sets risk specialists apart from general project management practitioners.

Who should take the PMI-RMP certification?

PMI-RMP suits project risk managers, senior project managers, PMO and risk analysts, and risk consultants, as well as professionals in high-risk sectors such as banking, construction, energy and technology. It is a specialist credential for those who manage risk on projects and programmes.

Is PMP required before the PMI-RMP?

No. PMP is not a prerequisite for PMI-RMP. You can apply directly based on your risk management experience and education. Many holders carry both, as the two credentials are highly complementary.

How long is the PMI-RMP certification valid?

The PMI-RMP is valid for three years from the date of certification. To maintain it, you earn 30 PDUs in risk management topics within each three-year continuing certification requirements (CCR) cycle.

    Pricing

What is included in the PMI-RMP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions mapped to the exam, mock tests and simulator access, downloadable templates, guidance on the PMI application, and learner support with a course completion certificate and contact hours. For reference, the PMI exam fee is around USD 520 for PMI members and USD 670 for non-members, and prices may vary by region, so verify current fees at pmi.org. PMI membership (about USD 139 a year) reduces the exam cost and gives free access to the Practice Standard for Project Risk Management.

Do you offer corporate or group pricing?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for PMOs, delivery teams and risk functions. Ask about corporate or group pricing for your team.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-RMP exam?

The PMI-RMP exam is closed book with 115 multiple-choice questions in single-answer and multiple-answer formats. It is based on the PMI-RMP Examination Content Outline effective January 2022, covering five risk management domains.

How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

The exam has 115 questions and an allotted time of 2.5 hours (150 minutes). Questions are distributed across the five domains defined in the current Examination Content Outline.

What is the passing score for the PMI-RMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed percentage pass mark. The result is determined through psychometric analysis, with domain-level feedback reported as Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all five domains.

What if I do not pass the exam on the first attempt?

You are allowed up to three attempts within the one-year eligibility period from application approval. Our preparation, mock exams and simulator are designed to help you pass with confidence. Reexamination fees apply to later attempts, so confirm current amounts at pmi.org.

Where can I sit the PMI-RMP exam in Thailand?

You can take the exam online through Pearson VUE's OnVUE proctoring, or at a Pearson VUE test centre, with locations available in Bangkok and worldwide. Scheduling is done through Pearson VUE or the PMI portal.

    Course Content

Can a beginner take PMI-RMP training?

The training welcomes professionals with some project experience.
