How to Get PMI-CP Certified in TaiwanStep-by-Step Certification Process

The PMI-CP (PMI Construction Professional) certification path in Taiwan is a structured single-exam track. You must complete the four-module training, document 3 years of construction or built-environment project experience earned within the past 10 years, then pass the 120-question, 230-minute PMI-CP exam delivered by PMI through Pearson VUE. From initial training to earning the PMI-CP designation typically takes 1-3 months.

Step 1: Confirm You Meet the PMI-CP Eligibility Requirements

Confirm you can document 3 years of on-the-job experience in construction projects or built-environment projects (infrastructure, real estate, utilities, etc.). The experience must have been earned within the past 10 years. There is no foundational PMI credential prerequisite for PMI-CP.

Step 2: Enroll in a Learning Program

Choose a learning format that aligns with your schedule and goals, such as a PMI-CP bootcamp, live virtual training, self-paced learning, or corporate group training. Enrollment provides access to PMI-aligned learning resources, study materials, and expert guidance.

Step 3: Submit Your PMI-CP Application via the PMI Candidate Portal

Create or sign in to your PMI account at pmi.org, complete the PMI-CP application, and document your training (32 contact hours) plus 3 years of construction project experience earned within the past 10 years. PMI membership (~$139/year) is optional but reduces the exam fee.

Step 4: Receive Application Approval and Register for the Exam

PMI reviews your application within ~5 business days. On approval, you receive eligibility to register for the PMI-CP exam through Pearson VUE. Your eligibility window opens for 1 year, during which you can attempt the exam up to 3 times.

    Step 5: Sit the 120-Question, 230-Minute PMI-CP Exam

Book a Pearson VUE slot , online proctored from home or office in Taiwan or at a Pearson VUE test centre. The exam includes 120 multiple-choice and scenario questions across the four PMI-CP domains, delivered over 230 minutes. You receive your preliminary result at the end of the session.

Step 6: Earn the PMI-CP Designation and Plan CCR Renewal

After passing the exam, PMI issues your PMI-CP digital badge and certificate. The designation is valid for three years and is renewable via PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) programme by earning PDUs in construction and built-environment-relevant content across the 3-year cycle.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

The PMI Construction Professional (PMI-CP) is PMI's specialist certification for people who deliver construction projects. It validates your ability to manage contracts, stakeholders, scope and governance, and suits construction project managers, site engineers moving into PM, and client-side leaders.

    General

What is the PMI-CP certification and who is it for?

The PMI Construction Professional (PMI-CP) is PMI's specialist certification for people who deliver construction projects. It validates your ability to manage contracts, stakeholders, scope and governance, and suits construction project managers, site engineers moving into PM, and client-side leaders.

Is the PMI-CP worth it for construction professionals in Taiwan?

Yes. As Taiwan invests in fabs, transport and energy, employers value construction managers who deliver to a global standard. Construction PM roles average around NT$1.57M a year, rising beyond NT$2M for contracts and programme leaders, and the PMI-CP helps you compete for them.

Which standard is the PMI-CP based on?

The PMI-CP is built on the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline (ECO) and aligned to the current edition of the PMBOK Guide, the reference standard published by the Project Management Institute (PMI). The exam applies these to real construction project scenarios.

Do I need a PMP before taking the PMI-CP?

No. The PMP is not a prerequisite for the PMI-CP. You can apply based on your construction project management experience and education. The two are complementary, with the PMP covering general project management and the PMI-CP validating construction-specific expertise.

How long is the PMI-CP certification valid?

The PMI-CP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle within each three-year cycle, with a minimum of 8 PDUs in each area, reported through PMI's continuing certification requirements system.

    Pricing

How much does PMI-CP training cost in Taiwan?

Training fees vary by format and are available on request. The PMI exam fee is billed separately by PMI in USD and is not part of the training price. Request a quote or speak with a learning advisor for current pricing and group options.

What is included in the PMI-CP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions and mock exams, guidance on the four prerequisite modules, application support, and learner support with a course completion certificate. Contact us for a full inclusions list and a quote.

How much is the PMI-CP exam fee?

For reference, PMI lists the exam at around USD 520 for members and USD 670 for non-members, billed separately in USD. Prices may vary, so confirm current fees at pmi.org. PMI membership can lower both the exam and renewal costs.

Do you offer corporate or group discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for construction and engineering teams, PMOs and site leadership groups. Ask about corporate pricing for a tailored quote.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-CP exam?

The PMI-CP exam is closed book with multiple-choice questions in single-answer and multiple-answer formats. It is delivered through Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre, and applies the ECO to construction scenarios.

How many questions are on the PMI-CP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 120 questions and you have 230 minutes, which is 3 hours and 50 minutes, to complete it. Results are reported with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement.

What domains does the PMI-CP exam cover?

The exam covers four domains: Contracts Management at 50 percent, Stakeholder Engagement at 30 percent, Strategy and Scope Management at 15 percent, and Project Governance at 5 percent. Contracts Management is by far the largest, reflecting its role in construction.

What are the eligibility requirements for the PMI-CP?

You must complete all four self-paced prerequisite modules and meet one experience set: a secondary diploma with 60 months of construction PM experience, a bachelor's degree with 36 months, or a GAC-accredited degree with 24 months, all within the past 10 years, plus 35 contact hours of PM education.

What if I do not pass the PMI-CP the first time?

PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period. Our structured practice, mock exams and domain-focused prep are designed to build your readiness so you go in confident, and re-examination fees apply to later attempts.

    Course Content

What topics does the PMI-CP training cover?

The training covers the four PMI-CP domains: Contracts Management, Stakeholder Engagement, Strategy and Scope Management, and Project Governance, plus claims and variation control, risk, and exam strategy across the full construction lifecycle.

Does the training cover the four prerequisite modules?

Yes. The programme includes guidance on completing the four mandatory self-paced modules, Project Communications, Interface Management, Scope and Change Order Management, and Contract and Risk Management, which together award 56 PDUs before you apply.

Does this training meet the 35 contact hours requirement?
