What Is the PMI-RMP Certification?Your Specialist Route in Project Risk

The PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) is PMI's specialist certification for professionals who identify, assess and control risk on projects and programmes. The PMI-RMP certification training in Toronto validates your ability to mitigate threats and capitalise on opportunities, setting you apart from general project practitioners in one of Canada's most competitive risk markets. The programme is built on the current Risk Management Professional Examination Content Outline effective January 2022, which spans predictive, agile and hybrid delivery, and draws on PMI's Practice Standard for Project Risk Management and the PMBOK Guide. You learn to plan risk strategy, run identification workshops, apply qualitative and quantitative analysis, design responses, and monitor and close risks across the project life cycle. Toronto's banks, insurers, infrastructure builders and energy operators run large, high-consequence programmes where structured risk management is expected, and credentialed risk specialists are scarce. Whether you are a project risk specialist, a senior project manager or a risk consultant, this training moves you from learning to certified with a clear, supported path. Start your PMI-RMP journey with Invensis Learning.

How to Get PMI-RMP Certified in TorontoStep-by-Step Certification Process

The PMI-RMP certification path in Toronto is a pure exam track: once your PMI application is approved, you proceed directly to the 115-question, 150-minute exam administered through Pearson VUE , no peer-panel review is required. From initial training to exam day typically takes 6-10 weeks, including application processing.

    Step 1: Confirm PMI-RMP Eligibility

Verify you meet one of the three eligibility sets. Set A: high school or secondary school diploma (or global equivalent) + 36 months / 3 years of project risk management experience within the last 5 years + 40 hours of project risk management education. Set B: bachelor's degree or higher (or global equivalent) + 24 months / 2 years of project risk management experience within the last 5 years + 30 hours of project risk management education. Set C: bachelor's degree or higher from a GAC-accredited program + 12 months / 1 year of project risk management experience within the past 5 years + 30 hours of project risk management education. Education hours must be in project risk management topics specifically.

Step 2: Enroll in a Learning Program

Choose a learning format that aligns with your schedule and goals, such as a PMI-RMP bootcamp, live virtual sessions, self-paced learning, or corporate group training. Enrollment provides access to PMI-aligned courseware, practice assessments, and expert-led guidance.

Step 3: Register on the PMI Candidate Portal

Create or sign in to your PMI account at pmi.org. PMI membership (~$139/year) is optional but reduces the PMI-RMP exam fee from ~$670 to ~$520 and gives access to the PMI Risk Management Practice Guide and the PMI Standard for Risk Management.

Step 4: Submit the PMI-RMP Application to PMI

Submit your application via the PMI candidate portal: document your project risk management experience, list your 30 or 40 contact hours, and pay the application/exam fee (~$520 PMI member or ~$670 non-member). PMI typically processes applications within 5-10 business days. Unlike PfMP, no peer-panel review is required.

Step 5: Sit the 115-Question PMI-RMP Exam via Pearson VUE

Once approved, you receive a one-year exam eligibility window. Book your PMI-RMP exam through Pearson VUE , online proctored from your home or office in Toronto, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. The exam is 115 multiple-choice and scenario questions over 150 minutes, covering all five risk management domains.

Step 6: Earn the PMI-RMP Credential and Plan CCR Renewal

On passing, PMI issues your PMI-RMP digital badge and certificate. The credential is valid for three years; renew via PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) programme by earning 30 PDUs in risk-relevant content across the 3-year cycle.

    Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis

Prioritise risks with a probability and impact matrix, then apply Monte Carlo simulation, decision-tree analysis, sensitivity analysis and expected monetary value to model their effect on cost and schedule.

    Designing Risk Responses

Plan responses for threats (avoid, transfer, mitigate, accept) and opportunities (exploit, share, enhance, accept). Build contingency and fallback plans, and integrate reserves into the project baseline.

    Monitoring and Closing Risks

Track triggers, residual and secondary risks, run periodic risk reviews, report exposure to governance, and formally close risks with lessons learned captured for future projects.

    Exam and Application Readiness

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

The PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) is PMI's specialist credential for professionals who identify, assess and control risk on projects and programmes. It suits project risk specialists, senior project managers, risk consultants and PMO analysts who want to prove advanced risk competency and stand out to employers.

    General

What is the PMI-RMP certification and who is it for?

The PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) is PMI's specialist credential for professionals who identify, assess and control risk on projects and programmes. It suits project risk specialists, senior project managers, risk consultants and PMO analysts who want to prove advanced risk competency and stand out to employers.

Is the PMI-RMP worth it in Toronto?

Yes. Toronto's banks, insurers, infrastructure builders and energy operators run large programmes where structured risk management is expected, and credentialed risk specialists are scarce. Median project risk manager pay sits around C$140,000, and certified professionals often report a pay premium of up to 20 percent.

Is PMP required before the PMI-RMP?

No. PMP certification is not a prerequisite for the PMI-RMP. You can apply directly based on your risk management experience and education, though many holders also carry the PMP because the two credentials complement each other.

    Is the PMI-RMP recognised internationally?

Yes. As a PMI credential, the PMI-RMP is recognised by employers worldwide. It is especially valued in high-risk industries such as construction, energy, defence and financial services, where formal project risk management is often contractually or regulatorily required.

How long is the PMI-RMP certification valid?

The PMI-RMP is valid for three years from the date of certification. To maintain it, you earn 30 PDUs in risk management topics within each three-year continuing certification requirements (CCR) cycle.

    Pricing

How much does PMI-RMP training cost in Toronto?

Training fees vary by format and schedule and are available on request in Canadian dollars. The fee includes PMI-aligned courseware, mock exams and application support; the PMI exam fee is billed separately by PMI in USD. Request a quote or talk to a learning advisor for current pricing.

What is included in the PMI-RMP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, 32 contact hours, domain-wise practice questions, mock exams, application guidance and learner support, plus a course completion certificate. The PMI exam fee is not part of the training price.

How much is the PMI-RMP exam fee?

PMI bills the exam fee separately in USD, for reference around USD 520 for PMI members and USD 670 for non-members; confirm current fees at pmi.org. PMI membership can lower the exam cost and gives free access to the Practice Standard for Project Risk Management.

Do you offer group or corporate discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for delivery, PMO and risk teams. Contact us for a tailored group quote.

What payment methods and instalment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-RMP exam?

The PMI-RMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the Risk Management Professional Examination Content Outline effective January 2022. It uses single-answer and multiple-answer questions across five risk management domains.

How many questions are on the PMI-RMP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 115 questions and a time limit of 2.5 hours (150 minutes). It is delivered online through Pearson VUE OnVUE proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

What are the PMI-RMP exam domains and their weights?

There are five domains under the January 2022 ECO: Risk Strategy and Planning (20%), Risk Identification (20%), Risk Analysis (23%), Risk Response (22%) and Monitor and Close Risks (15%).

What is the passing score for the PMI-RMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed numeric pass mark. Results are determined through psychometric analysis and reported with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all five domains.

What if I do not pass the exam the first time?

You have up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period from application approval. Re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts, and our training and mock exams are designed to prepare you for a first-time pass.

    Course Content

What are the eligibility requirements for the PMI-RMP?

PMI sets three routes. Set A: a secondary diploma plus 36 months of risk management experience in the last 5 years and 40 hours of risk education. Set B and Set C: a four-year degree (Set C from a GAC-accredited programme) with 24 or 12 months of experience respectively and 30 hours of risk education.

Does this training satisfy the PMI-RMP education requirement?

Yes for most candidates. The 32 contact hours fully satisfy the 30-hour risk management education requirement for Set B and Set C applicants. Set A applicants need 40 hours and should add at least 8 further hours of risk education.

What topics are covered in the PMI-RMP training?

The training covers the five ECO domains: Risk Strategy and Planning, Risk Identification, Risk Analysis, Risk Response, and Monitor and Close Risks. It spans predictive, agile and hybrid delivery, plus tools such as Monte Carlo simulation, decision trees and EMV.

How do I enrol in the PMI-RMP course?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete payment, and you will receive access to schedules, courseware and learning resources. Talk to a learning advisor if you would like help choosing a batch.
