What Is the PMP Certification? The Global Standard for Project Leaders

The Project Management Professional (PMP) is the Project Management Institute's flagship credential for professionals who lead and direct projects and teams. It proves you can deliver work using predictive, agile and hybrid approaches, and it is the project management credential most often named in job specifications across Zurich's banks, insurers, pharma groups and technology firms. This training prepares you for the current exam, which is based on PMI's updated Examination Content Outline and the PMBOK Guide Eighth Edition. You cover all five performance domains: project management fundamentals and core concepts, predictive plan-based methodologies, agile frameworks, business analysis and strategic management, and stakeholder engagement and communication. Sessions are led by PMI-aligned trainers and run live online, in the classroom and as corporate training for teams in the Greater Zurich Area. Alongside the syllabus you get help documenting your experience for the PMI application, plus practice questions and mock exams tuned to the 180-question, 230-minute format. If you are ready to move from running projects to being trusted with the ones that matter, start your journey with Invensis Learning.

Project Management Roles and Pay in ZurichA Credential Employers Ask For

Zurich pays for project leadership because so much of its work is money-critical and regulated. Banks, insurers, reinsurers, pharma groups and technology employers across the Greater Zurich Area all run large change portfolios, and PMI credentials show up repeatedly in their hiring specifications. Project managers in the city average around CHF 125,000 a year, senior project managers around CHF 155,000, and programme managers close to CHF 159,000. Here is what the market is telling us right now.

What Is Driving Demand for Certified Project Leaders in Zurich

Zurich does not have a shortage of people who can run a project plan. It has a shortage of people who can be trusted with a regulated, cross-border, business-critical programme. That is the gap this credential closes. Start your preparation today.

    Your Zurich Career Transformation

The Gap Between Managing Projects and Leading Them

    Your Before and After Picture

Zurich's employers run change that carries regulatory, financial and reputational risk, and they increasingly separate certified project leaders from everyone else who has simply delivered work. Here is which side of that line you want to be standing on.

How to Get PMP Certified in ZurichStep-by-Step Certification Process

The PMP certification path in Zurich is designed for experienced project managers. You complete the required 35 contact hours, document your project leadership experience, apply to PMI, prepare with mocks and assessments, and schedule your exam through Pearson VUE. Once you pass, you join the global community of 1.2 million+ PMP-certified professionals.

    Step 1: Eligibility Check

Confirm you meet one of PMI's two pathways: a four-year degree with 36 months of project leadership experience, or a secondary degree with 60 months of experience. Both pathways require 35 hours of project management education.

    Step 2: Enroll

Select the learning format that best suits your schedule and goals, including online, instructor-led, and corporate PMP training for teams. Once enrolled, you gain access to courseware, schedules, and a structured study plan to earn the required 35 contact hours.

    Step 3: Attend Classes

Complete live instructor-led sessions or self-paced learning modules included in your PMP training course online or classroom-based program. Participate in case discussions and cover the PMP syllabus across the People, Process, and Business Environment domains, including predictive, agile, and hybrid project management approaches.

Step 4: Document Experience and Apply to PMI

Document your project leadership experience (36 or 60 months, depending on pathway) and submit your PMP application to PMI. Our team supports you with the application process and experience documentation.

    Step 5: Preparation

Use 1,500+ practice questions, 5 full-length PMP mock exams, 1 Agile model exam, flashcards, and the exam simulator to strengthen weak areas and build speed for the 180-question exam.

Step 6: Schedule and Take the Exam

Once your PMI application is approved, schedule your exam at a Pearson VUE test center or take it online, proctored. Take the 230-minute, 180-question PMP exam covering People, Process, and Business Environment.

Step 7: Pass and Get Certified

After passing, you receive your PMP credential and digital badge, valid for three years. Maintain certification with 60 PDUs across the three-year cycle (35 in Education, 25 in Giving Back).

    What Our Learners Say

Passed First Time and Moved Up

"I had been running delivery for eight years without a credential to show for it. The agile and business analysis domains were where I was weakest, and the mock exams exposed that early enough to fix it. I passed first time and moved into a senior project role within four months."

    Lukas Brunner

    Senior Project Manager, Banking

    0/0

    Grounded in Real Project Work

"The trainer kept pulling the theory back to real regulated projects, which is exactly the world I work in. The application support was worth the fee on its own. Documenting experience hours correctly is far harder than people expect."

    Sandra Keller

    IT Project Manager, Insurance

    0/0

Filled the Gaps in My Method

"Coming from a purely agile background, the predictive and earned value content was new territory for me. The sessions made it usable rather than academic, and I now switch between approaches depending on what the programme actually needs."

    Marco Steiner

    Delivery Lead, Software

    0/0

    Consistent Reporting Across the Portfolio

"We put a cohort of eleven delivery managers through the programme. The immediate change was in reporting: sponsors finally get comparable status across projects instead of eleven different formats and eleven different definitions of on track."

    Nicole Frei

    Head of PMO, Financial Services

Training That Fitted Our Delivery Calendar

"Scheduling was the thing I worried about most, and Invensis Learning worked around our release calendar rather than against it. Our teams now share one governance vocabulary, which has taken real friction out of cross-functional programmes."

Yes, if you already lead projects. Project managers in Zurich average around CHF 125,000 a year, senior project managers around CHF 155,000 and programme managers close to CHF 159,000 according to Glassdoor 2026 data, and Zurich pay typically sits 15 to 25 percent above the Swiss average. PMI credentials appear regularly in Zurich hiring specifications.

    General

Is the PMP certification worth it in Zurich?

Yes, if you already lead projects. Project managers in Zurich average around CHF 125,000 a year, senior project managers around CHF 155,000 and programme managers close to CHF 159,000 according to Glassdoor 2026 data, and Zurich pay typically sits 15 to 25 percent above the Swiss average. PMI credentials appear regularly in Zurich hiring specifications.

    What is the PMP certification?

PMP is the Project Management Institute's flagship credential for professionals who lead and direct projects and teams. It validates competence across predictive, agile and hybrid delivery approaches. The current exam is based on PMI's updated Examination Content Outline and the PMBOK Guide Eighth Edition, and the credential is recognised in more than 200 countries.

    Who should take this training?

Experienced project professionals who already lead projects. That includes project managers, delivery leads, functional and team leads managing scope, schedule and resources, consultants whose clients require the credential, and agile practitioners who want a credential covering all delivery approaches. It is a senior credential, not an entry-level one.

How long is the PMP certification valid?

The credential is valid for three years from the date of certification. To maintain it you earn 60 PDUs within each three-year cycle through PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements system, with a minimum of 8 PDUs in each area of the PMI Talent Triangle: Ways of Working, Power Skills and Business Acumen.

Which employers in Zurich recognise the PMP?

Zurich's banks, insurers and reinsurers, technology employers, consultancies, life sciences groups and infrastructure organisations all hire project professionals with PMI credentials. The credential is also referenced in client contracts and procurement requirements, which matters if you work in consulting or professional services.

How does the PMP differ from the PMI-ACP?

PMP covers all delivery approaches, predictive, agile and hybrid, and is the broader and more senior project management credential. PMI-ACP is agile-specific and covers multiple agile frameworks in depth. Many professionals hold both, using PMI-ACP to deepen agile expertise alongside the broader credential.

    Pricing

What is included in the PMP course fee?

The fee covers instructor-led sessions with an accredited trainer, PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions and mock exams matched to the exam format, downloadable templates, guidance on the PMI application, post-training support and a course completion certificate with the project management education hours you earn.

How much does PMP training cost in Zurich?

Pricing depends on the format you choose, whether classroom, live online or onsite corporate delivery, and is available on request. Request a quote and a learning advisor will confirm the current fee for your preferred format and dates.

Is the PMI exam fee included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the exam fee separately and directly, in USD, with different rates for members and non-members. PMI membership reduces the exam fee and gives you free access to the PMBOK Guide 8th Edition and the Agile Practice Guide. Confirm current fees at pmi.org before you apply.

Do you offer group or corporate pricing?

Yes. We offer volume-based pricing for teams, PMOs and departments, with schedules built around your delivery calendar and case work relevant to your sector. Ask about corporate pricing and we will put together a quote for your cohort.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfer, and instalment options are available on selected plans. Corporate bookings can be invoiced. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

What happens if I do not pass the exam first time?

You get up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility window, so a first attempt that falls short is not the end of the road. PMI charges a re-examination fee for the second and third attempts. Our mock exams and domain-level feedback are designed to find your weak areas well before exam day.

What is the format of the PMP exam?

The exam has 180 questions and runs for 230 minutes, including two scheduled 10-minute breaks. It is closed book and uses several question types: multiple choice with single and multiple answers, matching, hotspot and limited fill-in-the-blank. Questions are scenario-based and test applied judgement rather than recall.

What are the exam domains and their weights?

The exam covers five performance domains: Project Management Fundamentals and Core Concepts (15%), Predictive, Plan-Based Methodologies (28%), Agile Frameworks and Methodologies (27%), Business Analysis and Strategic Management (18%), and Stakeholder Engagement and Communication (12%). This structure is aligned to the PMBOK Guide 8th Edition.

Is there a fixed passing score?

No. PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score and does not publish a fixed numeric cut mark. Results are reported as pass or fail with performance feedback per domain: Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement. The practical implication is to build broad mastery across all five domains.

Where can I sit the exam in Zurich?

You can sit the exam at a Pearson VUE test centre, or take it from home or the office through the Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctored system. Scheduling is done through Pearson VUE or the PMI portal once your application has been approved.

What is the exam application process?

Create a PMI account, document your project leadership experience and your 35 contact hours of project management education, and submit the online application. PMI reviews it and may select it for a random audit, in which case you supply supporting documents. On approval you pay the fee and schedule the exam.

    Course Content

Do I need prior project experience to join?

You can join the training at any point, but PMI requires experience to sit the exam: a four-year degree plus 36 months leading projects, or a secondary school qualification plus 60 months leading projects. Both paths also require 35 contact hours of project management education, which this training counts towards.

What topics does the training cover?

All five performance domains of the current Examination Content Outline: project fundamentals and core concepts, predictive plan-based methodologies, agile frameworks, business analysis and strategic management, and stakeholder engagement and communication. It also covers exam technique and PMI application guidance.

Which edition of the PMBOK Guide is the training based on?

The courseware is aligned to the PMBOK Guide Eighth Edition, which is the primary reference standard for the current exam, together with PMI's updated Examination Content Outline and the Agile Practice Guide. PMI members can download the 8th edition free from pmi.org.

    Does the exam cover agile?

Yes, substantially. Agile Frameworks and Methodologies is a dedicated domain worth 27% of the exam, covering Scrum, Kanban, Lean and XP practices, plus hybrid approaches that combine iterative and plan-based delivery. The training gives agile and predictive content equal weight because the exam does.

    What practice materials are included?

You get practice questions mapped to the exam content outline, full-length mock exams matched to the 180-question, 230-minute format, chapter-level quizzes, downloadable project templates and revision aids. Mock results are broken down by domain so you know exactly where to focus your remaining study time.

    Enrollment

How soon can I start training in Zurich?

New cohorts run regularly in classroom, live online and onsite corporate formats, so you can usually join within weeks rather than months. View upcoming schedules or talk to a learning advisor and we will match you to the next batch that fits your calendar.

How do I enrol in the course?

Choose your format and dates on the Invensis Learning website, complete payment, and you receive access to the schedule, courseware and learning resources. If you are unsure which format suits your role and workload, speak to an advisor before you book.

    What training formats are available?

PMP training online is delivered as live virtual instructor-led sessions, and the course also runs in the classroom and onsite as customised corporate group training for teams in Zurich and across Switzerland. Weekday and weekend schedules are available so it fits around your delivery commitments.

How do I know if I meet the PMI eligibility requirements?

Two paths qualify. With a four-year degree you need 36 months of leading projects plus 35 contact hours of project management education. With a secondary school qualification you need 60 months of leading projects plus the same 35 contact hours. Our advisors will walk through your experience with you before you apply.

Can I reschedule or transfer to another batch?

Yes. You can reschedule or transfer to a later batch, and selected plans include a Flexi Pass that lets you attend the training twice. Contact our support team and we will arrange it.

What is the refund or cancellation policy?

Refunds and cancellations are handled under our published policy, and selected plans include a money-back guarantee. Get in touch with our team and we will confirm exactly what applies to the plan and format you have chosen.
