Yes. In Essen, home to E.ON, RWE, Evonik and thyssenkrupp, senior portfolio roles command strong salaries, with Head of PMO around EUR 115,000 and PMO Director bands reaching EUR 180,000. PfMP signals validated portfolio leadership to these employers. Talk to a learning advisor to plan your path.

Is PMP or PgMP required before PfMP?

No. Neither PMP nor PgMP is a prerequisite for PfMP. Eligibility is based on general business experience and portfolio management experience, though many senior portfolio managers hold one or both credentials.

How long is the PfMP certification valid?

PfMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle within each three-year continuing certification requirements (CCR) cycle.

What is included in the PfMP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, the 24 contact hours, practice questions and mock exams, an exam simulator, portfolio templates, and application and panel-review support. The PMI exam fee is billed separately. Request a quote for current pricing.

How much does PfMP training cost in Essen?

Instructor-led PfMP training fees in Essen are available on request and vary by format and cohort. The PMI exam fee is billed separately in USD under regional pricing. Ask a learning advisor about group and corporate rates for teams.

How much is the PfMP exam fee?

PMI bills the PfMP exam separately in USD under regional pricing. For reference, member pricing is around USD 800 and non-member around USD 1,000; confirm current fees on the PMI store, as they vary and change periodically.

Does PMI membership reduce the cost?

Yes. PMI individual membership lowers both the exam fee and renewal costs and provides access to the Standard for Portfolio Management. Confirm the current membership fee on pmi.org before applying.

Do you offer corporate or group pricing?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for PMOs and leadership teams in Essen. Contact us for a tailored group quote.

What is the format of the PfMP exam?

The PfMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PfMP Examination Content Outline and the Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition. Questions are scenario-based across the five performance domains.

How many questions are on the PfMP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 170 questions and a four-hour (240-minute) allotted time. It is delivered by Pearson VUE via OnVUE online proctoring or at a test centre.

What are the five PfMP exam domains and their weights?

Strategic Alignment (25%), Governance (20%), Portfolio Performance (25%), Portfolio Risk Management (14%) and Communications Management (16%). Together these make up the five performance domains of the PfMP exam.

What is the PfMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to PfMP. A panel of portfolio practitioners evaluates your documented experience. You must pass both the panel review and the written exam to earn the credential.

What if I do not pass the exam first time?

PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period, and our preparation includes mock exams and revision support to build readiness. Reexamination fees apply to later attempts; confirm the amounts on the PMI store.

What is the passing score for the PfMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed pass mark. The result is determined through psychometric analysis and reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback, so aim for broad mastery across all five domains.

What topics are covered in the PfMP training?

The programme covers the five PfMP domains: Strategic Alignment (25%), Governance (20%), Portfolio Performance (25%), Portfolio Risk Management (14%) and Communications Management (16%), plus the application, panel review and exam strategy.

The Demand Drivers Behind Portfolio Leadership in Essen

Energy Transition Capital Reallocation

Essen's energy majors are shifting billions from fossil assets into renewables, grids and hydrogen. Selecting and balancing that investment portfolio demands portfolio-grade governance.

PfMP builds prioritisation and strategic alignment skills

Regulatory and ESG Compliance Pressure

EU electricity market reform and ESG reporting add complex, strategy-critical programmes. Employers need portfolio leaders who can align funded work to compliance and value at once.

PfMP builds governance and value-alignment skills

Strategy-To-Execution Gap

Boards approve transformation and capex programmes, but weak links between strategy and the funded project mix cause value leakage that certified portfolio leaders are hired to close.

PfMP builds value-realisation skills

Ruhr Structural Change

The region's shift from coal to green industry means constant reprioritisation of investment. Portfolio managers who can rebalance to strategy are central to a funded, orderly transition.

PfMP builds portfolio balancing skills

Portfolio Talent Scarcity

Essen has deep project management talent but few credentialed portfolio leaders. The PfMP's advanced eligibility and panel review make holders rare and sought-after.

PfMP makes certified portfolio leaders stand out

Capital-Efficiency Pressure

Margin and capital discipline across industrial headquarters push organisations to optimise the portfolio, retire low-value work and rebalance investment toward strategic priorities.

How to Get PfMP Certified in Essen

Step-by-Step Certification Process

The PfMP certification path in Essen is the most senior on the PMI credential ladder. It centres on PMI's peer-panel review of your portfolio management experience, followed by a 170-question, 240-minute scenario-based exam administered through Pearson VUE. From initial application to exam day typically takes 3-6 months, including the panel-review evaluation window.

Step 1

Confirm PfMP Eligibility

Verify you meet one of the three eligibility sets (Set A / Set B / Set C) , secondary diploma OR bachelor's degree OR GAC-accredited bachelor's, plus 96 months of professional business experience plus 84/48/36 months of portfolio management experience within the past 15 years.

Step 2

Enrol in PfMP Training

Choose your preferred Invensis Learning PfMP cohort (3-Day Live Online Bootcamp, E-Learning, or Corporate Group Training). On enrolment you receive PMI-aligned PfMP courseware, panel-submission templates, and scenario mock-exam material.

Step 3

Document Portfolio Management Experience for Panel Review

Compile your portfolio management experience submission to PMI's evaluation standard: roles held, portfolios led, governance forums chaired, value realised. Invensis Learning's submission templates and reviewer feedback help you avoid the common rejection patterns PMI flags.

Step 4

Submit the PfMP Application to PMI

Submit your application via the PMI candidate portal. PMI performs an initial review, then forwards the experience submission to the peer panel for evaluation. The panel-review window typically runs 60-90 days. Pay the PfMP application/exam fee: ~$800 (PMI member) or ~$1,000 (non-member).

Step 5

Prepare for the Examination

Strengthen your readiness through structured PfMP exam prep training, mock examinations, scenario-based exercises, portfolio governance case studies, and focused revision plans. This preparation helps build confidence for the examination and reinforces key portfolio management concepts.

Step 6

Earn the PfMP Credential and Plan CCR Renewal

On passing, PMI issues your PfMP digital badge and certificate. The credential is valid for three years; renew via PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) programme by earning 60 PDUs across the 3-year cycle in portfolio-relevant content.

Course Curriculum

of the PfMP Certification Training

"In terms of content, all good. But poor time management. Time expected for breaks was never compliant (ie. if teacher said he was taking 10 mins break, it ended up being 20. For 50 mins break, teacher was showing up AT least 10-15 mins late...) Also, during second day I asked one question about a test and teacher seem disappointed for me to ask and gave me a whole speech of me not retaining all information while reading (after hours of exhausted training) also letting me know people who does not focus tend to have Low IQ... Also, having to spend time just waiting for teacher to end notes that I guess it should have been ready already for the lesson (at least, if the teacher is expecting for the alum to memorize and know everything at once) "
