The programme runs for one day (8 hours) and covers all six DFSS modules, from DMADV foundations through Define, Measure, Analyse, Design and Verify. It is available live virtual, in the classroom and as corporate onsite training, with hands-on exercises throughout.

How does DFSS relate to my Six Sigma or quality work?

DFSS is the design counterpart to DMAIC. If you already improve existing processes, DFSS adds the methodology to design new ones correctly from the start. It complements Lean Six Sigma and Minitab skills, which handle the statistical analysis within DFSS projects.

Course Content

What topics does the DFSS syllabus cover?

The course covers DFSS versus DMAIC and the DMADV roadmap, the Define phase (project charter, VOC, Kano), the Measure phase (CTQ flow-down, QFD), the Analyse phase (concept selection, Design FMEA), the Design phase (robust design, P-diagram, DFMA) and the Verify phase (verification, validation, design scorecard, transfer).

What will I be able to do after the training?

You will be able to apply the DMADV roadmap to a design project, run a VOC and Kano analysis, translate needs into CTQs, build a QFD House of Quality, use the Pugh matrix, conduct a Design FMEA, apply robust design and plan design verification and validation.

Are there hands-on exercises in the course?

Yes. Hands-on exercises run throughout the day. You practise VOC to CTQ flow-down, QFD House of Quality construction, the Pugh concept selection matrix and a Design FMEA worksheet, all applied to realistic product or process design scenarios.

Does the course cover QFD, DFMEA and robust design?

Yes. Quality Function Deployment (the House of Quality), Design FMEA with RPN prioritisation, and robust design using the P-diagram and Taguchi principles are core parts of the syllabus, alongside VOC, CTQ flow-down and the Pugh concept selection matrix.

Can a beginner follow the material?

Yes. The course introduces DFSS and every tool from first principles, so no prior DFSS experience is needed. Case study examples and guided exercises help beginners and experienced engineers alike apply each concept during the day.
