Is lean manufacturing training worth it?

Yes. Do I need prior experience or qualifications?

Are there better rates for training a whole team?

Group and corporate rates are available and usually improve with team size. The most cost-effective option for plants is onsite training that uses your own production lines as the case study. Ask about corporate pricing.

How do I pay for the training?

Assessment

Is there an exam for lean manufacturing training?

No. This is a non-certification course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on lean tool exercises, waste identification activities and real manufacturing case examples during the programme.

How is my learning assessed?

There is no formal assessment. Instead you apply the tools throughout the day, through waste walks, value stream mapping, 5S assessment, OEE calculation and kanban exercises, so you leave able to use them at work.

What do I receive on completion?

You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning. No external body certifies the training, as lean manufacturing is a methodology rather than a credentialled scheme, so the real value is in the practical skills you gain.

How long is the training?

The programme runs for one day (8 hours), or across two half-days totalling 8 hours. It covers lean foundations, the eight wastes, value stream mapping, 5S, pull systems, JIT, TPM and OEE, standard work, SMED, Heijunka and Kaizen.

Will the skills expire or need renewal?

No. There is no certification to maintain and nothing to renew. The lean tools you learn stay applicable, and you can deepen them through further training such as value stream mapping, Kaizen or Lean Six Sigma courses.

Course Content

What topics does the training cover?

The course covers the Toyota Production System and the five lean principles, the eight wastes (DOWNTIME), value stream mapping, 5S and visual management, pull systems and kanban, JIT, TPM and OEE, standard work, SMED, Heijunka, poka yoke and building a lean culture.

What lean tools will I be able to use?

You will be able to run a waste walk, map a value stream and design a future state, set up 5S, design a kanban pull system, calculate OEE and target the six big losses, write standard work, and lead Kaizen improvements on the shop floor.

Is the training hands-on?

Yes. Hands-on exercises run throughout the day, including Gemba-based waste identification, VSM data collection, a 5S workplace assessment, an OEE calculation and a kanban sizing exercise, all applied to realistic production scenarios.

What standard is the training based on?

It is grounded in the Toyota Production System developed by Taiichi Ohno and Shigeo Shingo, and the wider lean body of knowledge popularised by Womack and Jones. There is no single governing body, as lean is an established methodology rather than a certification scheme.

Can beginners follow the course?

Yes. Every tool is introduced from first principles, so no prior lean knowledge is needed. Exercises and real examples help beginners and experienced staff apply the concepts to their own production environment.
