What Is Kaizen Training and What Will It Teach You?Your Route to Everyday Improvement

Kaizen Training in Fiji is a practical, one-day continuous improvement programme that teaches you how to lead and take part in Kaizen events, the focused, team-based workshops that eliminate waste and improve how work gets done. Kaizen (改善), meaning change for the better, is a Japanese philosophy developed within the Toyota Production System and popularised worldwide by Masaaki Imai in his 1986 book, and it underpins Lean management, Six Sigma and Total Quality Management. Over a single day you learn the full method: the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) cycle, Gemba walks, the eight wastes of Lean, 5S, standard work and the Kaizen event structure, from planning a target to sustaining the gains. It aligns with ISO 9001:2015 continual improvement, and hands-on simulation exercises let you practise facilitating an improvement event before you apply it at work. The programme suits operations and production managers, team leaders, quality officers and continuous improvement professionals across Fiji's manufacturing, food and beverage, tourism and public-sector organisations. As employers face rising cost and capacity pressure, people who can remove waste and raise quality are increasingly valued. Build these skills with Invensis Learning and start improving your processes from day one.

    • Managing the key stages of Kaizen event execution, including opening sessions, improvement activity phases, solution testing, and results presentation
    • Recognizing the limitations of Kaizen events and understanding when deeper analytical approaches or broader program interventions are required to address complex organizational problems

Skills You Will Build in This Kaizen CoursePractical Lean Tools You Can Apply

In this Kaizen training you will learn how to plan, facilitate and sustain a continuous improvement event using the PDCA cycle and core Lean tools. By the end you can identify waste, analyse root causes, redesign a process and standardise the gains.

Plan and Facilitate a Kaizen Event

Select the right target, set measurable objectives, assemble a cross-functional team and run an improvement event from Gemba observation through to closeout.

    Apply the PDCA Improvement Cycle

Use Plan-Do-Check-Act to define problems, trial countermeasures, check results and standardise what works as a continuous loop rather than a one-off fix.

Identify the Eight Wastes of Lean

Spot defects, overproduction, waiting, unused talent, transport, inventory, motion and extra processing at the Gemba using the DOWNTIME framework.

Find Root Causes with 5 Whys and Fishbone

Drill past symptoms to true causes using 5 Whys and Ishikawa diagrams, then prioritise the causes worth fixing within the event timeframe.

    Organise the Workplace with 5S

Apply Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardise and Sustain to create a clean, organised workspace that reveals problems and supports standard work.

    Create and Use Standard Work

Document the current best-known method with takt time, work sequence and standard work-in-progress so improvements hold instead of reverting.

    Map Process Flow and Motion

Use current-state process maps, spaghetti diagrams and cycle-time analysis to expose unnecessary movement, bottlenecks and imbalance.

Sustain Gains and Build the Culture

Use the Kaizen newspaper, visual management, 30-60-90 day audits and daily Kaizen to embed continuous improvement across the organisation.

    General

    What is Kaizen training?

Kaizen training is a practical, one-day course that teaches you to lead and take part in continuous improvement events. You learn the Kaizen philosophy, the PDCA cycle, waste elimination, 5S and standard work, so you can improve how work gets done. It is a practical, hands-on skills programme with no examination.

    Is Kaizen training worth it?

Yes. Kaizen gives you a proven, repeatable method to remove waste, raise quality and cut cost through small, sustainable changes. Across Fiji's manufacturing, food, tourism and public-sector employers, people who can run improvement events and sustain gains are increasingly valued in operations and quality roles.

    Who should attend Kaizen training?

Kaizen training suits operations and production managers, team leaders, supervisors, quality officers, Lean coordinators and continuous improvement professionals. It also helps Six Sigma practitioners and anyone building an improvement culture. No prior Lean knowledge is needed, as all concepts are introduced from first principles.

Do I need any prerequisites for Kaizen training?

No. There are no formal prerequisites. Some familiarity with Lean ideas such as waste and flow is helpful but not required, as the course introduces every concept from the ground up. It is open to professionals across all sectors in Fiji.

Where does the Kaizen method come from?

Kaizen (改善) is a Japanese philosophy meaning change for the better. It was developed within the Toyota Production System and popularised worldwide by Masaaki Imai in his 1986 book. It underpins Lean management, Six Sigma, Total Quality Management and ISO 9001 continual improvement.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led training across all six Kaizen modules, structured courseware, templates, hands-on simulation exercises, learner support and a course completion record from Invensis Learning. Ask a learning advisor for a full inclusions list.

No. Kaizen training has no examination, so there is no exam fee or hidden charge. The programme fee covers your training, materials and a course completion record. Any optional corporate add-ons are agreed upfront with no surprises.

    Assessment

Is there an exam at the end of the training?

No. Kaizen training is a practical skills course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on workshop simulations, team exercises and group discussion, so you practise the method rather than sit a test.

What do I get on completing the training?

You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning. It confirms you have completed the practical Kaizen programme. The Kaizen method has no formal awarding body, so the value is in the applied skills you gain, not a credential.

    How is my learning assessed?

There is no formal assessment. Instead, hands-on Kaizen event simulations and team activities throughout the day let you practise planning, facilitating and sustaining an improvement event, so you leave able to apply the method at work.

How long is the Kaizen training programme?

The programme runs for one day (about 8 hours) and covers all six Kaizen modules, from the philosophy and PDCA cycle to planning, running and sustaining a Kaizen event, with workshop simulations throughout. An extended format across two half-days is also available.

Do the Kaizen skills need renewing?

No. There is nothing to renew and no credential to maintain. The Kaizen skills you learn do not expire and are immediately applicable, so you can keep using and building on them in your workplace.

    Course Content

What topics does Kaizen training cover?

The training covers the Kaizen philosophy, the PDCA cycle, Gemba walks, Muda, Mura and Muri, the eight wastes of Lean, planning and running a Kaizen event, 5S, standard work, spaghetti diagrams and the Kaizen newspaper, plus sustaining improvements and daily Kaizen.

    What is a Kaizen event?

A Kaizen event, also called a Kaizen blitz or rapid improvement event, is a focused, time-boxed team workshop that analyses a specific process problem and implements improvements quickly. In the course you practise planning and facilitating one from Gemba observation to closeout.

Will I learn Lean tools like 5S and PDCA?

Yes. You learn to apply core Lean and quality tools within a Kaizen event, including the PDCA cycle, 5S, standard work, 5 Whys, Ishikawa (Fishbone) diagrams, spaghetti diagrams and cycle-time analysis, all through hands-on practice.

    Are there hands-on exercises?

Yes. Workshop simulation exercises run throughout the day, so you practise the Kaizen method on realistic process scenarios rather than only learning theory. This makes it easier to apply what you learn to your own work straight away.

How does Kaizen relate to Lean and Six Sigma?

Kaizen is the engine of Lean continuous improvement and sits within the Toyota Production System. Kaizen events are also used in the Improve and Control phases of Six Sigma DMAIC, and the method supports Total Quality Management and ISO 9001 continual improvement.
