    Exam

    How many exams are there and what is the format?

    There are two separate exams. The Foundation exam has 40 closed-book, single-answer multiple-choice questions. The Practitioner exam also has 40 closed-book questions, but they are scenario-based, presenting realistic project situations that require applied judgement.

    What is the duration and passing score for each exam?

    Each exam lasts 60 minutes. The passing score for both is 65 percent, which is 26 out of 40 questions correct. You must pass both the Foundation and Practitioner exams to hold both credentials.

    Are there prerequisites for the exams?

    The Foundation level has no formal prerequisites and is open to all. The EXIN BCS Foundation Certificate in Business Analysis is the recommended prerequisite before you take the Practitioner exam.

    Where can I sit the EXIN BCS exams?

    Both exams can be taken online through EXIN's online proctored exam system or at an EXIN accredited testing location. They are usually arranged through your accredited training provider as part of the combined programme.

    What if I do not pass an exam on the first attempt?

    You can re-sit the exam you did not pass. EXIN re-sit policies and fees vary, so confirm the current terms at the time of booking. Our trainers provide targeted guidance and mock exams to help you clear both exams on your first attempt.

    Course Content

    What topics does the training cover?

    Foundation covers 14 topic areas including investigation techniques, requirements engineering, stakeholder management, business process modelling, strategy analysis and business cases. Practitioner covers seven applied topic areas assessed through scenario-based questions.

    Can a beginner take this course?

    Yes. The Foundation level assumes no prior business analysis knowledge and has no formal prerequisites, so beginners are welcome. The programme then builds toward applied Practitioner skills, with trainer guidance and practice throughout.

    How long is the training programme?

    The combined Foundation and Practitioner programme is 32 hours of instruction, typically delivered as four full days or across more days with shorter sessions. Foundation content is usually covered first, followed by Practitioner content.

    Are practice tests and case studies included?

    Yes. The programme includes mock exams and practice questions for both the Foundation and Practitioner formats, plus industry-driven case studies that show how business analysis techniques apply in realistic project scenarios.

    Is the courseware aligned to the current standard?

    Yes. The courseware is aligned to the EXIN BCS Foundation and Practitioner Examination Specifications and the BCS Business Analysis Body of Knowledge, so you study the current syllabus for both exams.
