How to Get PMI-CP Certified in South KoreaStep-by-Step Certification Process

The PMI-CP (PMI Construction Professional) certification path in South Korea is a structured single-exam track. You must complete the four-module training, document 3 years of construction or built-environment project experience earned within the past 10 years, then pass the 120-question, 230-minute PMI-CP exam delivered by PMI through Pearson VUE. From initial training to earning the PMI-CP designation typically takes 1-3 months.

Step 1: Confirm You Meet the PMI-CP Eligibility Requirements

Confirm you can document 3 years of on-the-job experience in construction projects or built-environment projects (infrastructure, real estate, utilities, etc.). The experience must have been earned within the past 10 years. There is no foundational PMI credential prerequisite for PMI-CP.

Step 2: Enroll in a Learning Program

Choose a learning format that aligns with your schedule and goals, such as a PMI-CP bootcamp, live virtual training, self-paced learning, or corporate group training. Enrollment provides access to PMI-aligned learning resources, study materials, and expert guidance.

Step 3: Submit Your PMI-CP Application via the PMI Candidate Portal

Create or sign in to your PMI account at pmi.org, complete the PMI-CP application, and document your training (32 contact hours) plus 3 years of construction project experience earned within the past 10 years. PMI membership (~$139/year) is optional but reduces the exam fee.

Step 4: Receive Application Approval and Register for the Exam

PMI reviews your application within ~5 business days. On approval, you receive eligibility to register for the PMI-CP exam through Pearson VUE. Your eligibility window opens for 1 year, during which you can attempt the exam up to 3 times.

    Step 5: Sit the 120-Question, 230-Minute PMI-CP Exam

Book a Pearson VUE slot , online proctored from home or office in South Korea or at a Pearson VUE test centre. The exam includes 120 multiple-choice and scenario questions across the four PMI-CP domains, delivered over 230 minutes. You receive your preliminary result at the end of the session.

Step 6: Earn the PMI-CP Designation and Plan CCR Renewal

After passing the exam, PMI issues your PMI-CP digital badge and certificate. The designation is valid for three years and is renewable via PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) programme by earning PDUs in construction and built-environment-relevant content across the 3-year cycle.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

The PMI Construction Professional (PMI-CP) is PMI's specialist credential for the construction industry. It validates your ability to apply project management in a construction environment across four domains, and it suits construction project managers, site managers moving into project management, and PMP holders working in construction.

    General

What is the PMI-CP certification and who is it for?

The PMI Construction Professional (PMI-CP) is PMI's specialist credential for the construction industry. It validates your ability to apply project management in a construction environment across four domains, and it suits construction project managers, site managers moving into project management, and PMP holders working in construction.

Is PMI-CP worth it for construction professionals in South Korea?

Yes. With over 1,000 trillion won committed to semiconductor clusters, data centres and infrastructure, Korean contractors such as Samsung C&T, Hyundai E&C and GS E&C increasingly value construction-specific project management credentials. PMI-CP helps you stand out for complex, high-governance projects.

Do I need a PMP before taking PMI-CP?

No. PMP is not a prerequisite for PMI-CP. You can apply based on your construction project management experience and education. The two credentials are complementary: PMP covers general project management, while PMI-CP validates construction-specific expertise.

Which standard is the PMI-CP exam based on?

The PMI-CP exam is based on the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline (ECO), which draws on the latest edition of the PMBOK Guide and construction industry practices. The ECO defines four domains: Contracts Management, Stakeholder Engagement, Strategy and Scope Management, and Project Governance.

How long is the PMI-CP certification valid?

PMI-CP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 professional development units (PDUs) across the PMI Talent Triangle within each three-year cycle, with at least 8 PDUs in each area.

    Pricing

How much does PMI-CP training cost in South Korea?

PMI-CP training fees vary by format and provider, and instructor-led and corporate options are quoted on request. The PMI exam fee is billed separately by PMI in USD under regional pricing. Request a quote for current South Korea pricing.

What is included in the PMI-CP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, guidance on the four prerequisite modules, practice questions, mock exams, application support, learner support and a course completion certificate with contact hours. Ask a learning advisor for the full inclusions.

Is the PMI-CP exam fee included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the PMI-CP exam fee separately in USD under regional pricing, and PMI members pay less than non-members. Confirm current exam and re-examination fees at pmi.org before you apply.

Do you offer corporate or group discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for construction and engineering teams across South Korea. Contact us for a tailored group quote.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-CP exam?

The PMI-CP exam is closed book with multiple-choice questions in single-answer and multiple-answer formats. It is delivered online through Pearson VUE OnVUE proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

How many questions are on the PMI-CP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 120 questions and an allotted time of 230 minutes (3 hours 50 minutes). It covers the four domains defined in the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline.

What are the four PMI-CP exam domains and their weights?

The four domains are Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%), as set out in the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline.

What is the passing score for the PMI-CP exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score rather than a fixed percentage. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all four domains.

How many attempts do I get for the PMI-CP exam?

You get up to three attempts within the one-year eligibility period that begins when your application is approved. Re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts.

What is the PMI-CP exam application process?

First complete the four mandatory prerequisite modules and meet one experience and education set, then apply online at pmi.org. PMI may audit your application; once approved, schedule your exam through Pearson VUE within the one-year eligibility window.

    Course Content

What topics does the PMI-CP training cover?

The training covers the four PMI-CP domains: Contracts Management, Stakeholder Engagement, Strategy and Scope Management, and Project Governance, plus exam strategy and guidance on the four prerequisite modules and the application.

What are the four mandatory prerequisite modules?

Before applying, you complete four self-paced PMI-CP modules in any order: Project Communications, Interface Management, Scope and Change Order Management, and Contract and Risk Management. Each is a 6 to 10 hour commitment and awards 14 PDUs, for 56 PDUs in total.
