    General

What is the CSM certification and who is it for?

The Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) is Scrum Alliance's entry-level Scrum Master certification. It validates your understanding of the Scrum framework, the Scrum Master role and the values that make Scrum teams effective. It suits aspiring Scrum Masters, project managers moving to agile, and developers or analysts working in Scrum teams.

Is the CSM certification worth it for professionals in Lodz?

    Is the CSM recognised internationally?

Yes. The CSM is the world's most widely recognised Scrum Master credential, with over a million certificates issued globally. Scrum Alliance operates across all industries and regions, so the designation travels with you across sectors and countries.

How long is the CSM certification valid?

The CSM is valid for two years. To renew, you earn 16 Scrum Education Units (SEUs) within each two-year cycle and pay the Scrum Alliance membership renewal fee. SEUs come from training, conferences, coaching and self-study.

What is the next step after the CSM?

The Advanced Certified ScrumMaster (A-CSM) is the next level in the Scrum Alliance Scrum Master track, covering advanced facilitation, coaching and stakeholder engagement. The CSM is the mandatory prerequisite, and A-CSM also expects at least 12 months in a Scrum Master role.

    Exam

What is the format of the CSM exam?

The CSM exam is an online, open-book, multiple-choice test taken through the Scrum Alliance member portal after you complete an approved course. It has 50 questions and a 60-minute time limit, and no proctor is required.

How many questions are on the CSM exam and what is the pass mark?

The CSM exam has 50 questions and you have 60 minutes to complete it. The passing score is 74%, which means answering at least 37 of the 50 questions correctly.

How many attempts do I get for the CSM exam?

Candidates typically have up to three attempts to pass the CSM exam within 90 days of completing an approved course. If you do not pass at first, your course preparation and materials support you through the retakes within that window.

Do I have to attend a course to take the CSM exam?

Yes. Scrum Alliance requires attendance at an approved CSM course delivered by a Certified Scrum Trainer before the exam can be accessed. Self-study alone does not qualify, which is why the course is a mandatory part of the pathway.

Which standard is the CSM exam based on?

The CSM exam is based on the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives and aligned to the current Scrum Guide (November 2020). The November 2020 edition introduced the Product Goal and framed the Sprint Goal and Definition of Done as commitments.

    Course Content

What topics does the CSM course cover?

The course covers six areas from the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives: Scrum theory and principles, the five Scrum values, the Scrum Team, Scrum events, Scrum artifacts and the Scrum Master role, all grounded in the current Scrum Guide.

Do I need prior experience, or can a beginner take it?

A beginner can take it. There is no formal education or work-experience requirement for the CSM, so it suits those new to Scrum as well as professionals who want to formalise existing knowledge. The trainer builds understanding from first principles.

    What learning resources are provided?

You receive Scrum Alliance aligned courseware, industry case studies illustrating facilitation and impediment removal, exam-style practice, and guidance on renewing your CSM with Scrum Education Units. Materials support both the exam and real workplace use.

Is the courseware aligned to the latest Scrum Guide?
