How to Get PMI-CP Certified in ClevelandStep-by-Step Certification Process

The PMI-CP (PMI Construction Professional) certification path in Cleveland is a structured single-exam track. You must complete the four-module training, document 3 years of construction or built-environment project experience earned within the past 10 years, then pass the 120-question, 230-minute PMI-CP exam delivered by PMI through Pearson VUE. From initial training to earning the PMI-CP designation typically takes 1-3 months.

Step 1: Confirm You Meet the PMI-CP Eligibility Requirements

Confirm you can document 3 years of on-the-job experience in construction projects or built-environment projects (infrastructure, real estate, utilities, etc.). The experience must have been earned within the past 10 years. There is no foundational PMI credential prerequisite for PMI-CP.

Step 2: Enroll in a Learning Program

Choose a learning format that aligns with your schedule and goals, such as a PMI-CP bootcamp, live virtual training, self-paced learning, or corporate group training. Enrollment provides access to PMI-aligned learning resources, study materials, and expert guidance.

Step 3: Submit Your PMI-CP Application via the PMI Candidate Portal

Create or sign in to your PMI account at pmi.org, complete the PMI-CP application, and document your training (32 contact hours) plus 3 years of construction project experience earned within the past 10 years. PMI membership (~$139/year) is optional but reduces the exam fee.

Step 4: Receive Application Approval and Register for the Exam

PMI reviews your application within ~5 business days. On approval, you receive eligibility to register for the PMI-CP exam through Pearson VUE. Your eligibility window opens for 1 year, during which you can attempt the exam up to 3 times.

    Step 5: Sit the 120-Question, 230-Minute PMI-CP Exam

Book a Pearson VUE slot , online proctored from home or office in United States or at a Pearson VUE test centre. The exam includes 120 multiple-choice and scenario questions across the four PMI-CP domains, delivered over 230 minutes. You receive your preliminary result at the end of the session.

Step 6: Earn the PMI-CP Designation and Plan CCR Renewal

After passing the exam, PMI issues your PMI-CP digital badge and certificate. The designation is valid for three years and is renewable via PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) programme by earning PDUs in construction and built-environment-relevant content across the 3-year cycle.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

The PMI Construction Professional (PMI-CP) is PMI's specialist certification for construction. It validates your ability to manage projects across four domains: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%), and Project Governance (5%). It suits construction PMs, site managers, and PMP holders.

    General

What is the PMI-CP certification and who is it for?

The PMI Construction Professional (PMI-CP) is PMI's specialist certification for construction. It validates your ability to manage projects across four domains: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%), and Project Governance (5%). It suits construction PMs, site managers, and PMP holders.

Is PMI-CP worth it for construction professionals in Cleveland?

Yes. Construction project managers in Cleveland average around $106,829 a year, with program roles reaching far higher, and demand is rising with data centers, Cleveland Clinic expansions and record ODOT infrastructure spending. PMI-CP gives you a recognized construction credential that employers value.

Is the PMP required before taking PMI-CP?

No. PMP is not a prerequisite for PMI-CP. You can apply directly based on your construction project management experience and education. The two are complementary, though: PMP validates broad project management, while PMI-CP validates construction-specific expertise.

How is PMI-CP different from the PMP?

PMP is a broad project management credential across all industries. PMI-CP focuses exclusively on construction, with its largest domain being Contracts Management at 50 percent, reflecting how central contracts, claims and disputes are in construction delivery. Many construction PMs hold both.

How long is the PMI-CP certification valid?

PMI-CP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 professional development units (PDUs) across the PMI Talent Triangle within each three-year cycle, with at least 8 PDUs in each area.

    Pricing

How much does PMI-CP training cost in Cleveland?

Instructor-led PMI-CP training fees vary by format and schedule. The fee covers training and learning resources, while the PMI exam fee is billed separately by PMI. Request a quote for current Cleveland pricing and available batches.

What is included in the PMI-CP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware across the four ECO domains, practice questions, mock exams, downloadable templates, guidance on the four prerequisite modules and the application, learner support, and a course completion certificate with contact hours.

How much is the PMI-CP exam fee?

PMI bills the exam fee separately in USD. For reference only, it is about USD 520 for PMI members and USD 670 for non-members, and prices can change. Verify current fees at pmi.org before you apply. Membership can reduce the exam cost.

Do you offer corporate or group discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customized schedules and volume-based pricing for construction project teams, PMOs and regional offices. Contact us for a tailored group quote.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer installment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-CP exam?

The PMI-CP exam has 120 questions and a 230-minute (3 hours 50 minutes) time limit. It is closed book with multiple-choice questions, delivered via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test center.

What are the four PMI-CP exam domains and their weights?

Per the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline, the four domains are Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%), and Project Governance (5%). Contracts Management is the largest and most heavily tested.

What is the passing score for the PMI-CP exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score and does not publish a fixed number. Results are reported as pass or fail, with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all four domains.

What happens if I do not pass the first time?

You are allowed up to three attempts within the one-year eligibility period from application approval. Reexamination fees apply to later attempts. Our mock exams and domain-weighted revision are designed to get you ready for a first-attempt pass.

Where can I take the PMI-CP exam?

You can take it online through Pearson VUE's OnVUE proctoring from home or office, or at a Pearson VUE test center. Scheduling is done through the Pearson VUE or PMI portal within your eligibility window.

    Course Content

What topics does the PMI-CP training cover?

The training covers all four ECO domains: Contracts Management, Stakeholder Engagement, Strategy and Scope Management, and Project Governance. You cover contract types and delivery methods, claims and variations, owner and regulator engagement, scope and schedule control, risk, and governance.

What are the prerequisites for PMI-CP?

You must complete four mandatory self-paced modules (Project Communications, Interface Management, Scope and Change Order Management, and Contract and Risk Management) and meet one experience set: high school plus 60 months, a bachelor's plus 36 months, or a GAC-accredited degree plus 24 months, all with 35 contact hours of PM education.

Does this training meet the 35 contact hour requirement?

The instructor-led program provides 32 contact hours, which is close to but below the 35 contact hours PMI requires. Ask us how supplementary self-study or pre-reading can be credited toward the 35-hour requirement before you apply.

Is the courseware aligned to the latest PMI-CP ECO?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and the PMBOK Guide, along with construction industry-specific standards and practices referenced by PMI.

Will I receive a certificate of completion?

Yes. After meeting the course requirements you receive a course completion certificate along with the contact hours earned, which you can apply toward the PMI-CP education prerequisite and certification renewal.

    Enrollment

Who is eligible to enroll in the training?

Anyone working in or entering construction project management can enroll in the training. To sit the PMI-CP exam, you must separately complete the four prerequisite modules and meet PMI's experience and education requirements.

How do I enroll in the PMI-CP course?

You can enroll through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete payment, and you will receive access to schedules, courseware and learning resources. Talk to a learning advisor if you need help choosing a batch.

    What training formats are available?

We offer live online (live virtual) instructor-led training, classroom training, and customized corporate group training, so you can choose the format that fits your schedule and team. See upcoming schedules to pick a batch.

Can I reschedule or transfer to another batch?

Yes. Flexi options let you reschedule or transfer to another batch, and selected plans let you attend the training twice. Contact support to arrange this.

What is the refund or cancellation policy?

Refunds and cancellations are handled per our published policy, and selected plans include a money-back guarantee. Reach out to our team for the details that apply to your enrollment.
