How to Get PMI-RMP CertifiedStep-by-Step Certification Process

The PMI-RMP certification path is a pure exam track: once your PMI application is approved, you proceed directly to the 115-question, 150-minute exam administered through Pearson VUE , no peer-panel review is required. From initial training to exam day typically takes 6-10 weeks, including application processing.

    Step 1: Confirm PMI-RMP Eligibility

Verify you meet one of the three eligibility sets. Set A: high school or secondary school diploma (or global equivalent) + 36 months / 3 years of project risk management experience within the last 5 years + 40 hours of project risk management education. Set B: bachelor's degree or higher (or global equivalent) + 24 months / 2 years of project risk management experience within the last 5 years + 30 hours of project risk management education. Set C: bachelor's degree or higher from a GAC-accredited program + 12 months / 1 year of project risk management experience within the past 5 years + 30 hours of project risk management education. Education hours must be in project risk management topics specifically.

Step 2: Enroll in a Learning Program

Choose a learning format that aligns with your schedule and goals, such as a PMI-RMP bootcamp, live virtual sessions, self-paced learning, or corporate group training. Enrollment provides access to PMI-aligned courseware, practice assessments, and expert-led guidance.

Step 3: Register on the PMI Candidate Portal

Create or sign in to your PMI account at pmi.org. PMI membership (~$139/year) is optional but reduces the PMI-RMP exam fee from ~$670 to ~$520 and gives access to the PMI Risk Management Practice Guide and the PMI Standard for Risk Management.

Step 4: Submit the PMI-RMP Application to PMI

Submit your application via the PMI candidate portal: document your project risk management experience, list your 30 or 40 contact hours, and pay the application/exam fee (~$520 PMI member or ~$670 non-member). PMI typically processes applications within 5-10 business days. Unlike PfMP, no peer-panel review is required.

Step 5: Sit the 115-Question PMI-RMP Exam via Pearson VUE

Once approved, you receive a one-year exam eligibility window. Book your PMI-RMP exam through Pearson VUE , online proctored from your home or office, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. The exam is 115 multiple-choice and scenario questions over 150 minutes, covering all five risk management domains.

Step 6: Earn the PMI-RMP Credential and Plan CCR Renewal

On passing, PMI issues your PMI-RMP digital badge and certificate. The credential is valid for three years; renew via PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) programme by earning 30 PDUs in risk-relevant content across the 3-year cycle.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

The PMI-RMP (Risk Management Professional) is PMI's specialist credential for professionals who identify, assess, and control project risk. It is designed for risk managers, senior project managers, PMO analysts, and consultants who want to prove dedicated risk expertise beyond general project management.

    General

What is the PMI-RMP certification and who is it for?

The PMI-RMP (Risk Management Professional) is PMI's specialist credential for professionals who identify, assess, and control project risk. It is designed for risk managers, senior project managers, PMO analysts, and consultants who want to prove dedicated risk expertise beyond general project management.

Is the PMI-RMP worth it in 2026?

Yes. Certified holders report an average pay uplift of around 14%, and senior risk roles average about $156,850. With risk-role openings growing over 15% a year and a global talent shortage, the credential is a strong career investment.

    Is the PMI-RMP recognized internationally?

Yes. As a PMI credential, the PMI-RMP is recognized by employers worldwide. It is especially valued in high-risk sectors such as construction, energy, defense, and financial services, where formal project risk management is often contractually or regulatorily required.

How is the PMI-RMP different from the PMP?

The PMP is a broad project management credential covering many knowledge areas, while the PMI-RMP focuses entirely on project risk: strategy, identification, analysis, response, and monitoring. The two are complementary, and the PMP is not required to earn the PMI-RMP.

How long is the PMI-RMP valid and how do I renew it?

The PMI-RMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 30 PDUs in risk management topics within each three-year continuing certification requirements (CCR) cycle and pay the renewal fee.

    Pricing

What is included in the PMI-RMP course fee?

The training fee typically includes ECO-aligned courseware, 32 contact hours, practice questions, mock exams, application guidance, and learner support. The PMI exam fee is billed separately. Talk to a learning advisor for a detailed quote.

How much does the PMI-RMP exam cost?

For reference, the PMI exam fee is around USD 520 for members and USD 670 for non-members, and prices can vary by region. PMI membership costs about USD 139 a year and reduces the exam fee. Confirm current fees at pmi.org before applying.

Is the exam fee included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the PMI-RMP exam fee separately in USD under regional pricing, so it is not part of the training fee. Membership can lower both the exam and renewal costs.

Do you offer group or corporate discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customized schedules and volume-based pricing for teams, PMOs, and delivery groups. Contact us for a tailored group quote.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer installment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-RMP exam?

The PMI-RMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination with single-answer and multiple-answer questions. It is delivered online via Pearson VUE OnVUE proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test center.

How many questions are on the PMI-RMP exam?

The exam has 115 questions and a total time of 2.5 hours (150 minutes). Results are reported as pass or fail, with domain-level performance feedback.

What are the PMI-RMP exam domains and their weights?

Per the ECO effective January 2022, there are five domains: Risk Strategy and Planning (20%), Risk Identification (20%), Risk Analysis (23%), Risk Response (22%), and Monitor and Close Risks (15%).

What is the passing score for the PMI-RMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed pass mark. The passing score is set through psychometric analysis, and results are reported as Above Target, Target, Below Target, or Needs Improvement per domain, so aim for broad mastery across all five domains.

What if I do not pass the exam the first time?

You get up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period from application approval. Re-examination fees apply to later attempts; confirm the current amounts at pmi.org.

What are the eligibility requirements for the PMI-RMP?

There are three sets: a secondary diploma with 36 months of risk experience and 40 hours of risk education; a bachelor's degree with 24 months and 30 hours; or a GAC-accredited degree with 12 months and 30 hours. Experience must be within the last five years.

    Course Content

What will I learn in the PMI-RMP training?

You will learn to plan risk strategy, identify threats and opportunities, run qualitative and quantitative analysis, plan and implement responses, and monitor and close risks. The 32 contact hours map to all five ECO domains.

Does this training meet the PMI-RMP education requirement?

Yes. The 32 contact hours fully satisfy the 30-hour risk education requirement for bachelor's-degree and GAC-accredited applicants. Secondary-diploma applicants need 40 hours and should add at least 8 more hours of risk education.

Do I need prior experience to take the training?

No prior experience is needed to attend the training itself. To sit the exam, PMI requires documented project risk management experience under one of its three eligibility sets, and we guide you on documenting it.

Which standard and edition is the course based on?

The course is aligned to the PMI-RMP Examination Content Outline effective January 2022 and PMI's Practice Standard for Project Risk Management, covering predictive, agile, and hybrid delivery.

    What practice materials are included?

You receive ECO-aligned courseware, practice questions mapped to the 115-question format, full-length mock exams, and topic-wise quizzes to identify weak areas and build exam readiness.

How do I enroll in the PMI-RMP course?

You can enroll through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete payment, and you will receive access to schedules, courseware, and learning resources. See upcoming batches to get started.

New batches run regularly across time zones for live online and classroom formats, and self-paced learning starts as soon as you enroll. Talk to a learning advisor to find the next suitable batch.

Refunds and cancellations are handled per our published policy, and selected plans include a money-back guarantee. Reach out to our team for the details that apply to your enrollment.
