What Is Quality Function Deployment and Why It MattersA Customer-Driven Approach to Design

Quality Function Deployment training in Uganda gives you a practical, customer-driven method for turning what customers actually want into clear design and engineering decisions. Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a structured planning approach, developed in Japan by Yoji Akao, that translates the Voice of the Customer into measurable technical characteristics using the House of Quality matrix. This is a one-day, non-certification skills course. There is no exam and no awarding body. Instead, you build real capability through hands-on House of Quality exercises you can apply the very next day. You learn to capture and structure customer needs, weigh them with the Kano model, and cascade requirements through product planning, parts deployment, process planning and production planning. For Ugandan manufacturers, processors and service providers under growing pressure to raise product quality and meet UNBS standards, QFD is a proven way to design quality in from the start. Delivered by Invensis Learning in live virtual, classroom and on-site formats, the course suits engineers, product and quality professionals, and Six Sigma practitioners who want customer requirements to drive every decision.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

Quality Function Deployment (QFD) training is a practical, one-day skills course that teaches you to translate the Voice of the Customer into design and engineering decisions using the House of Quality. It suits product designers, quality and design engineers, product managers, R&D and process improvement professionals, and Six Sigma practitioners in Uganda.

    General

What is Quality Function Deployment training and who is it for?

Quality Function Deployment (QFD) training is a practical, one-day skills course that teaches you to translate the Voice of the Customer into design and engineering decisions using the House of Quality. It suits product designers, quality and design engineers, product managers, R&D and process improvement professionals, and Six Sigma practitioners in Uganda.

Is QFD worth learning in Uganda right now?

Yes. With UNBS reporting that over half of market goods are substandard and the Buy Uganda Build Uganda drive raising quality expectations, employers value professionals who can design quality in from the start. QFD is a direct, on-the-job skill that helps you stand out in engineering, quality and product roles.

What is the House of Quality?

The House of Quality is the central QFD planning matrix. It links customer requirements to measurable engineering characteristics, rates the strength of each relationship, benchmarks against competitors, and sets design targets. The course teaches you to build and interpret one step by step through hands-on exercises.

Do I need prior experience to attend?

No. There are no formal prerequisites. Familiarity with product development or quality concepts is helpful but not required, as the course introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles. It is open to anyone who translates customer needs into products or services.

    Who developed QFD?

QFD was developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno in the late 1960s and early 1970s, with an early application at Mitsubishi's Kobe Shipyard. It is now used worldwide in manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, healthcare, services and software design.

    Pricing

How much does QFD training cost in Uganda?

Pricing varies by delivery format (live online, classroom or corporate), group size and schedule. For individual and group rates in Uganda, the fee is available on request. Contact a learning advisor for a current quote tailored to your needs.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee covers instructor-led training across all six QFD modules, hands-on House of Quality exercises, structured courseware and learning resources, and learner support. A course completion certificate from Invensis Learning is provided on finishing the programme.

Do you offer discounts for teams or groups?

Yes. Corporate and group training is available with schedules and pricing tailored to your team size and sector. Ask about group rates when you request a quote for your organisation.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major cards and bank transfers, and can arrange invoicing for corporate bookings. Speak with a learning advisor to confirm the options that apply to your enrolment.

Is there a separate exam fee?

No. This is a non-certification skills course with no examination, so there is no separate exam fee. Your enrolment covers the training itself. Any corporate customisation is quoted separately on request.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for this QFD course?

No. QFD training is a non-certification course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on House of Quality construction exercises, case studies and team discussion during the one-day programme, so you build capability you can apply immediately.

Will I receive anything on completion?

Yes. You receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning after finishing the programme. There is no external awarding body or credential, as this is a practical skills course focused on applying QFD at work.

How is learning assessed during the course?

There is no formal assessment. Instead, you learn by doing: structuring the Voice of the Customer, classifying needs with the Kano model, and building and interpreting a full House of Quality from a realistic scenario, with trainer guidance throughout.

Does QFD count toward Six Sigma projects?

Yes. QFD is a core tool in Design for Six Sigma (DMADV Measure phase) and in the DMAIC Define phase for translating the Voice of the Customer into CTQs. The skills apply directly if you are working toward or leading Lean Six Sigma projects.

Is QFD useful for services, not just manufacturing?

Yes. While QFD began in manufacturing, the course covers its use in services such as healthcare, financial services and IT, and in software design. The House of Quality applies wherever customer requirements must be turned into delivery specifications.

    Course Content

What will I learn in the QFD course?

You will learn to capture and structure the Voice of the Customer, apply the Kano model, build the full House of Quality, resolve design conflicts with the correlation roof, cascade QFD through four phases, and apply QFD in DFSS, DMAIC and service design contexts.

What are the six rooms of the House of Quality?

They are customer requirements, engineering characteristics, the relationship matrix, the correlation roof, competitive technical benchmarking, and engineering targets. The course walks you through each one and how to read the completed matrix for design priorities.

What are the four phases of QFD?

The four-phase cascade is Product Planning (the House of Quality), Parts Deployment, Process Planning and Production Planning. Together they carry customer requirements all the way from design intent through to production and quality controls.

    Are there hands-on exercises?

Yes. Hands-on House of Quality construction runs throughout the day, including VOC structuring with the affinity diagram, Kano classification, importance weighting, and identifying design hot spots and conflicts on a realistic product or service scenario.

    How long is the training?

The programme is delivered in one day, totalling around eight hours, covering all six QFD modules. It is also available in an extended half-day format across two days. There is no fixed schedule beyond this, so formats can flex to your team.

    Enrollment

How do I enrol in the QFD course?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete booking, and you will receive access to schedules, courseware and learning resources. Talk to a learning advisor if you would like help choosing a format.

    What training formats are available?

The course is offered online (live virtual) instructor-led, in the classroom, and as on-site corporate training for teams. This lets you pick the format that best fits your schedule and learning preference in Uganda.

    How soon can I start?

New sessions are scheduled regularly for individuals, and corporate sessions can be arranged around your team's availability. See upcoming schedules or ask a learning advisor about the next available dates in your timezone.

Can you deliver this in-house for our team?

Yes. On-site and live virtual corporate delivery is available across Uganda, and can be built around one of your own products so the House of Quality you create in the session has immediate value. Request a group quote to arrange it.

    Can I reschedule my booking?

Yes. Rescheduling is handled per our published policy, and corporate bookings can be re-timed around your team's needs. Contact support to arrange a change to your enrolment.
