How to Get PMI-RMP Certified in AustriaStep-by-Step Certification Process

The PMI-RMP certification path in Austria is a pure exam track: once your PMI application is approved, you proceed directly to the 115-question, 150-minute exam administered through Pearson VUE , no peer-panel review is required. From initial training to exam day typically takes 6-10 weeks, including application processing.

    Step 1: Confirm PMI-RMP Eligibility

Verify you meet one of the three eligibility sets. Set A: high school or secondary school diploma (or global equivalent) + 36 months / 3 years of project risk management experience within the last 5 years + 40 hours of project risk management education. Set B: bachelor's degree or higher (or global equivalent) + 24 months / 2 years of project risk management experience within the last 5 years + 30 hours of project risk management education. Set C: bachelor's degree or higher from a GAC-accredited program + 12 months / 1 year of project risk management experience within the past 5 years + 30 hours of project risk management education. Education hours must be in project risk management topics specifically.

Step 2: Enroll in a Learning Program

Choose a learning format that aligns with your schedule and goals, such as a PMI-RMP bootcamp, live virtual sessions, self-paced learning, or corporate group training. Enrollment provides access to PMI-aligned courseware, practice assessments, and expert-led guidance.

Step 3: Register on the PMI Candidate Portal

Create or sign in to your PMI account at pmi.org. PMI membership (~$139/year) is optional but reduces the PMI-RMP exam fee from ~$670 to ~$520 and gives access to the PMI Risk Management Practice Guide and the PMI Standard for Risk Management.

Step 4: Submit the PMI-RMP Application to PMI

Submit your application via the PMI candidate portal: document your project risk management experience, list your 30 or 40 contact hours, and pay the application/exam fee (~$520 PMI member or ~$670 non-member). PMI typically processes applications within 5-10 business days. Unlike PfMP, no peer-panel review is required.

Step 5: Sit the 115-Question PMI-RMP Exam via Pearson VUE

Once approved, you receive a one-year exam eligibility window. Book your PMI-RMP exam through Pearson VUE , online proctored from your home or office in Austria, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. The exam is 115 multiple-choice and scenario questions over 150 minutes, covering all five risk management domains.

Step 6: Earn the PMI-RMP Credential and Plan CCR Renewal

On passing, PMI issues your PMI-RMP digital badge and certificate. The credential is valid for three years; renew via PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) programme by earning 30 PDUs in risk-relevant content across the 3-year cycle.

The Risk Management Skills You Will MasterStrategy, Analysis and Response

Skills covered in the PMI-RMP training map directly to the five ECO domains, so you leave able to lead risk end to end. By the close of the programme you can plan, identify, analyse, respond to and monitor project risk with PMI methods.

    Set Risk Strategy and Planning

You will learn to establish the risk management approach and governance for a project: analysing project documents, assessing the environment with SWOT and PESTLE, confirming risk thresholds and appetite, and tailoring the risk management plan for predictive, agile or hybrid delivery.

    Identify Threats and Opportunities

Facilitate structured risk identification using brainstorming, the Delphi technique, interviews, checklists and assumption analysis. Document risks clearly in the risk register with cause, risk and effect, and validate the register for completeness with stakeholders.

    Run Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis

Prioritise risks with the probability and impact matrix, then apply quantitative techniques such as Monte Carlo simulation, decision tree analysis, sensitivity analysis and expected monetary value to assess the aggregate effect of risk on cost and schedule.

    Plan and Implement Risk Responses

Develop response strategies for threats (avoid, transfer, mitigate, accept) and opportunities (exploit, share, enhance, accept). Assign response owners, build contingency and fallback plans, and integrate reserves into the project plan.

    Monitor and Close Risks

Track identified, residual and secondary risks against triggers, run periodic risk reviews, report on the project risk profile, and formally close risks while capturing lessons learned for future projects.

    Apply Risk Tools and Reporting

Use tornado diagrams, heat maps, S-curves and reserve analysis to communicate risk clearly to stakeholders and governance bodies, and connect risk data to sound investment and delivery decisions.

Is the PMI-RMP worth it for risk professionals in Austria?

Yes. The PMI-RMP is PMI's specialist project risk credential, valued by Austrian banks, energy utilities, construction groups and technology firms that run complex projects. Risk managers in Austria average around €62,000, rising well beyond with seniority, and certified specialists stand out in a market short of them.

    What is the PMI-RMP certification?

The PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) is PMI's specialist credential recognising expertise in assessing and identifying project risks, mitigating threats and capitalising on opportunities. It is designed for professionals who specialise in risk management on projects and programmes.

    Who should take the PMI-RMP?

It suits risk specialists, senior project managers, programme and portfolio managers, risk consultants and PMO analysts. It is especially relevant in high-risk sectors such as construction, energy, financial services and technology, where formal project risk management is expected.

Is PMP required before the PMI-RMP?

How long is the PMI-RMP valid and how is it renewed?

The PMI-RMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 30 PDUs in risk management topics within each three-year continuing certification requirements (CCR) cycle and pay PMI's renewal fee.

    Pricing

What is included in the PMI-RMP training fee?

The training fee includes 32 contact hours of PMI-aligned instruction across all five ECO domains, practice questions aligned to the 115-question exam, study resources and application guidance. The PMI exam fee is billed separately by PMI. Request a quote for current pricing in Austria.

How much does the PMI-RMP exam cost?

PMI bills the exam fee in USD, and it varies by region and membership. As a reference, it is around USD 520 for PMI members and USD 670 for non-members. Membership also lowers renewal costs, so confirm current fees on pmi.org before you apply.

Do you offer group or corporate pricing in Austria?

Is the PMI exam fee part of the course price?

No. The PMI-RMP exam fee is paid directly to PMI and is separate from the training fee. PMI membership can reduce both the exam fee and renewal costs. Ask a learning advisor if you would like guidance on membership.
