    Your Macau Career Transformation

Where PMI-RMP Takes Your Risk Career

    Before and After Certification

Macau's project economy is expanding with diversification, financial reform and Hengqin integration, and employers increasingly separate certified risk leaders from the rest. Here is which side of that line you want to be on.

How to Get PMI-RMP Certified in MacauStep-by-Step Certification Process

The PMI-RMP certification path in Macau is a pure exam track: once your PMI application is approved, you proceed directly to the 115-question, 150-minute exam administered through Pearson VUE , no peer-panel review is required. From initial training to exam day typically takes 6-10 weeks, including application processing.

    Step 1: Confirm PMI-RMP Eligibility

Verify you meet one of the three eligibility sets. Set A: high school or secondary school diploma (or global equivalent) + 36 months / 3 years of project risk management experience within the last 5 years + 40 hours of project risk management education. Set B: bachelor's degree or higher (or global equivalent) + 24 months / 2 years of project risk management experience within the last 5 years + 30 hours of project risk management education. Set C: bachelor's degree or higher from a GAC-accredited program + 12 months / 1 year of project risk management experience within the past 5 years + 30 hours of project risk management education. Education hours must be in project risk management topics specifically.

Step 2: Enroll in a Learning Program

Choose a learning format that aligns with your schedule and goals, such as a PMI-RMP bootcamp, live virtual sessions, self-paced learning, or corporate group training. Enrollment provides access to PMI-aligned courseware, practice assessments, and expert-led guidance.

Step 3: Register on the PMI Candidate Portal

Create or sign in to your PMI account at pmi.org. PMI membership (~$139/year) is optional but reduces the PMI-RMP exam fee from ~$670 to ~$520 and gives access to the PMI Risk Management Practice Guide and the PMI Standard for Risk Management.

Step 4: Submit the PMI-RMP Application to PMI

Submit your application via the PMI candidate portal: document your project risk management experience, list your 30 or 40 contact hours, and pay the application/exam fee (~$520 PMI member or ~$670 non-member). PMI typically processes applications within 5-10 business days. Unlike PfMP, no peer-panel review is required.

Step 5: Sit the 115-Question PMI-RMP Exam via Pearson VUE

Once approved, you receive a one-year exam eligibility window. Book your PMI-RMP exam through Pearson VUE , online proctored from your home or office in Macau, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. The exam is 115 multiple-choice and scenario questions over 150 minutes, covering all five risk management domains.

Step 6: Earn the PMI-RMP Credential and Plan CCR Renewal

On passing, PMI issues your PMI-RMP digital badge and certificate. The credential is valid for three years; renew via PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) programme by earning 30 PDUs in risk-relevant content across the 3-year cycle.

What You Will Master in This ProgrammeSkills Mapped to the Five Risk Domains

PMI-RMP training builds the risk knowledge, practical tools and exam readiness you need to lead risk at project scale. By the end, you can plan, identify, analyse, respond to and monitor risk in line with PMI's January 2022 examination content outline.

Set the Risk Strategy and Plan

Skills covered in PMI-RMP training start here: establish the risk approach, appetite and thresholds, and tailor a risk management plan across predictive, agile and hybrid delivery. This is Domain I of the exam and the foundation of credible risk leadership.

    Identify Threats and Opportunities

Run structured identification workshops using brainstorming, the Delphi technique, SWOT and assumption analysis, then document risks clearly in the risk register. You will surface both threats and opportunities across every project area.

    Analyse Risk Qualitatively and Quantitatively

Apply the probability and impact matrix, then quantitative tools such as Monte Carlo simulation, decision-tree analysis, sensitivity analysis and expected monetary value to prioritise risks and model their effect on cost and schedule.

    Plan and Implement Risk Responses

Select and execute response strategies for threats (avoid, transfer, mitigate, accept) and opportunities (exploit, share, enhance, accept), assign owners, and build contingency and fallback plans with the right reserves.

    Monitor and Close Risks

Track triggers, residual and secondary risks, run periodic risk reviews, report to stakeholders and formally close risks with lessons learned. This keeps risk exposure visible throughout the project lifecycle.

    Communicate and Govern Risk

Tailor risk information to stakeholders, escalate high-priority risks and embed risk activities into project governance, so decisions are made on clear, current risk data rather than guesswork.

The PMI-RMP is PMI's specialist credential in project risk management, for professionals who identify, analyse and respond to project risk. It suits risk managers, senior project managers, PMO analysts and consultants in Macau's gaming, construction and finance sectors.

    General

What is the PMI-RMP certification and who is it for?

The PMI-RMP is PMI's specialist credential in project risk management, for professionals who identify, analyse and respond to project risk. It suits risk managers, senior project managers, PMO analysts and consultants in Macau's gaming, construction and finance sectors.

Is the PMI-RMP worth it for professionals in Macau?

Yes. As Macau diversifies through its 1+4 strategy and Hengqin projects, certified risk leaders are in demand, and senior risk roles can reach MOP 1 million a year. The credential validates specialist expertise employers across gaming, construction and finance recognise.

    Is the PMI-RMP recognised internationally?

Yes. As a PMI credential it is recognised by employers worldwide and valued in high-risk sectors such as gaming, construction, energy and financial services, where formal project risk management is often required.

Do I need a PMP before taking the PMI-RMP?

No. The PMP is not a prerequisite. You can apply directly based on your risk management experience and education, though many PMI-RMP holders also hold the PMP, as the two credentials are complementary.

How long is the PMI-RMP valid and how do I renew it?

The PMI-RMP is valid for three years. You renew it by earning 30 PDUs in risk management topics within each three-year cycle through PMI's continuing certification requirements system.

    Pricing

What is included in the PMI-RMP training fee in Macau?

The fee typically covers PMI-aligned courseware, 32 contact hours, practice questions, mock exams, risk templates and application guidance. The PMI exam fee is billed separately by PMI. Request a quote for current Macau pricing.

How much does the PMI-RMP exam cost?

For reference, PMI charges around USD 520 for members and USD 670 for non-members; fees vary by region, so confirm current figures at pmi.org. PMI membership, about USD 139 a year, reduces the exam fee and includes the Practice Standard for Project Risk Management.

Are group or corporate discounts available?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with tailored schedules and volume-based pricing for PMOs and teams across Macau. Ask about corporate pricing for a quote.

What payment options do you offer?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

Is the exam fee part of the course price?

No. PMI bills the exam fee separately in USD under regional pricing. The training fee covers your preparation, courseware and the 32 contact hours of risk management education.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-RMP exam?

The exam is closed book with 115 multiple-choice questions, in single-answer and multiple-answer formats. It is based on the PMI-RMP Examination Content Outline effective January 2022.

How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

The PMI-RMP exam has 115 questions with a time limit of 2.5 hours (150 minutes).

What are the PMI-RMP exam domains and their weights?

Five domains: Risk Strategy and Planning (20%), Risk Identification (20%), Risk Analysis (23%), Risk Response (22%) and Monitor and Close Risks (15%), per the January 2022 ECO.

What is the passing score for the exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score rather than a fixed percentage. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback, so aim for broad mastery across all five domains.

What are the eligibility requirements for the PMI-RMP?

With a secondary diploma, you need 36 months of risk management experience and 40 hours of education; with a bachelor's degree, 24 months and 30 hours; with a GAC-accredited degree, 12 months and 30 hours, all within the past five years.

What if I do not pass the first time?

You may take up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period. Re-examination fees apply, and our preparation support and mock exams are built to help you pass with confidence.

    Course Content

What will I learn in the PMI-RMP training?

You will learn all five risk domains: setting the risk strategy, identifying threats and opportunities, qualitative and quantitative analysis, planning and implementing responses, and monitoring and closing risks across predictive, agile and hybrid projects.

Do I need prior experience to take the training?

Anyone can attend the training, and it suits professionals new to formal risk management. To sit the exam, PMI requires risk management experience and education; the programme provides the required education hours.

Does the course satisfy the PMI-RMP education requirement?
