Where does the Poka Yoke method come from?

Poka Yoke was developed by Shigeo Shingo within the Toyota Production System and set out in his 1986 work, Zero Quality Control: Source Inspection and the Poka-Yoke System. It is a core Lean and Six Sigma technique, aligned with the risk-based thinking of ISO 9001:2015.

Is the training relevant to Estonian employers?

What do I receive on completion?

What topics does the Poka Yoke training cover?

The programme covers six modules: the cost of defects and why inspection is not enough, human error and error types, Poka Yoke classification, the six-step design process, real-world case studies, and implementing mistake-proofing in your organisation.

What types of Poka Yoke will I learn about?

You learn prevention-type versus detection-type devices, control and warning functions, and the three detection methods: contact, fixed-value and motion-step. You also cover source inspection, self-check and successive check, plus low-tech and high-tech solutions.

Are there hands-on exercises?

Yes. Hands-on error identification and Poka Yoke design exercises run throughout the day, alongside case studies from manufacturing, healthcare, service and IT. You practise the method on realistic scenarios so you can apply it confidently at work.

Is the course only for manufacturing?

No. While mistake-proofing began in manufacturing, it applies wherever human error creates problems. The course includes service, healthcare, logistics and IT examples, from checklists and form validation to barcode verification and access controls.

What materials are provided?

You receive structured courseware covering all six modules, worked case studies and exercise materials, plus a course completion record. Materials are grounded in the Toyota Production System and Shingo's mistake-proofing classification.
