    General

What is the Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) certification?

The CSM is Scrum Alliance's entry-level Scrum Master certification. It validates your understanding of the Scrum framework, the Scrum Master role, and the values and practices that make Scrum teams effective. It is the most widely recognised Scrum Master credential globally, with over one million holders.

Is the CSM certification worth it for a career in Leeds?

Yes. Scrum Master roles in Leeds average around 54,000 pounds a year, with senior and coaching roles reaching far higher, and employers across fintech, banking, retail and NHS digital actively hire CSM holders. As one of the UK's fastest-growing Agile markets, Leeds offers strong demand for certified Scrum Masters.

Who should take the CSM course?

The CSM course suits aspiring Scrum Masters, project managers moving to Agile, and developers or team members who want to formalise their Scrum knowledge. There is no work-experience requirement, so it is ideal for anyone new to Scrum or seeking recognised proof of their skills.

How long is the CSM certification valid?

The CSM is valid for two years. To renew it you earn 16 Scrum Education Units (SEUs) and pay the Scrum Alliance membership renewal fee within each two-year cycle. SEUs can be earned through training, conferences, coaching and self-study.

What is the next step after CSM?

The Advanced Certified ScrumMaster (A-CSM) is the next level in the Scrum Alliance Scrum Master track, covering advanced facilitation, coaching and stakeholder engagement. CSM is the mandatory prerequisite, and A-CSM also expects experience in a Scrum Master role after earning CSM.

    Pricing

How much does CSM training cost in Leeds?

CSM training fees vary by format and schedule, and the Scrum Alliance exam and two-year membership are typically included in the course fee paid to the training provider. For current Leeds pricing, request a quote and a learning advisor will share the options that suit you.

What is included in the CSM course fee?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the payment option that best fits your budget.

    Exam

What is the format of the CSM exam?

The CSM exam is an open-book, multiple-choice test taken online through the Scrum Alliance member portal after you complete the course. It is not proctored, and it is based on the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives and the current Scrum Guide.

How many questions are on the CSM exam and how long is it?

The CSM exam has 50 multiple-choice questions and a 60-minute time limit. You access it online through your Scrum Alliance account within 90 days of completing the course.

What is the passing score for the CSM exam?

The passing score is 74%, which means answering at least 37 of the 50 questions correctly. Because the exam is open book, you can refer to your course materials and the Scrum Guide while you take it.

What happens if I do not pass the CSM exam first time?

You have up to three attempts to pass within 90 days of completing the course. Our training and practice guidance are designed to help you pass on your first attempt, so the retake window is there as reassurance rather than something most learners need.

Do I have to attend a course to sit the CSM exam?

Yes. Attendance at an approved CSM course delivered by a Certified Scrum Trainer is mandatory, and the exam is unlocked only after you complete it. Self-study alone does not qualify you to take the CSM exam.

    Course Content

What topics does the CSM course cover?

The course covers the full Scrum framework: Scrum theory and principles, the five Scrum values, the Scrum Team, all five Scrum events, the Scrum artifacts and their commitments, and the Scrum Master role, all aligned to the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives.

Which Scrum Guide edition is the course based on?

The course is built around the current Scrum Guide, the November 2020 edition by Ken Schwaber and Jeff Sutherland. This 2020 edition introduced the Product Goal and framed the Sprint Goal and Definition of Done as commitments, all of which the course covers.

Can a beginner take the CSM course?

Yes. The CSM is a foundational certification with no formal education or work-experience requirement, so beginners are welcome. The Certified Scrum Trainer guides you through Scrum theory and practice with hands-on exercises, so no prior Scrum experience is needed.

    What learning materials are provided?

You receive Scrum Alliance aligned courseware, industry-driven case studies, and practice questions mapped to the open-book, 50-question exam format. A two-year Scrum Alliance membership and digital badge follow on passing.

How long is the CSM training?

The CSM course is a 16-hour programme delivered by a Certified Scrum Trainer, usually as two full days or four half-days depending on the schedule. This exceeds the Scrum Alliance minimum contact hours required for the course.
