How to Get PMI-RMP Certified in ChennaiStep-by-Step Certification Process

The PMI-RMP certification path in Chennai is a pure exam track: once your PMI application is approved, you proceed directly to the 115-question, 150-minute exam administered through Pearson VUE , no peer-panel review is required. From initial training to exam day typically takes 6-10 weeks, including application processing.

    Step 1: Confirm PMI-RMP Eligibility

Verify you meet one of the three eligibility sets. Set A: high school or secondary school diploma (or global equivalent) + 36 months / 3 years of project risk management experience within the last 5 years + 40 hours of project risk management education. Set B: bachelor's degree or higher (or global equivalent) + 24 months / 2 years of project risk management experience within the last 5 years + 30 hours of project risk management education. Set C: bachelor's degree or higher from a GAC-accredited program + 12 months / 1 year of project risk management experience within the past 5 years + 30 hours of project risk management education. Education hours must be in project risk management topics specifically.

Step 2: Enroll in a Learning Program

Choose a learning format that aligns with your schedule and goals, such as a PMI-RMP bootcamp, live virtual sessions, self-paced learning, or corporate group training. Enrollment provides access to PMI-aligned courseware, practice assessments, and expert-led guidance.

Step 3: Register on the PMI Candidate Portal

Create or sign in to your PMI account at pmi.org. PMI membership (~$139/year) is optional but reduces the PMI-RMP exam fee from ~$670 to ~$520 and gives access to the PMI Risk Management Practice Guide and the PMI Standard for Risk Management.

Step 4: Submit the PMI-RMP Application to PMI

Submit your application via the PMI candidate portal: document your project risk management experience, list your 30 or 40 contact hours, and pay the application/exam fee (~$520 PMI member or ~$670 non-member). PMI typically processes applications within 5-10 business days. Unlike PfMP, no peer-panel review is required.

Step 5: Sit the 115-Question PMI-RMP Exam via Pearson VUE

Once approved, you receive a one-year exam eligibility window. Book your PMI-RMP exam through Pearson VUE , online proctored from your home or office in Chennai, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. The exam is 115 multiple-choice and scenario questions over 150 minutes, covering all five risk management domains.

Step 6: Earn the PMI-RMP Credential and Plan CCR Renewal

On passing, PMI issues your PMI-RMP digital badge and certificate. The credential is valid for three years; renew via PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) programme by earning 30 PDUs in risk-relevant content across the 3-year cycle.

It is designed for project managers, risk analysts, PMO leads and senior practitioners who specialise in managing risk on projects and programmes.

    General

What is the PMI-RMP certification and who is it for?

The PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) is PMI's specialist credential in project risk management, recognising expertise in assessing risks, mitigating threats and capitalising on opportunities. It is designed for project managers, risk analysts, PMO leads and senior practitioners who specialise in managing risk on projects and programmes.

Is the PMI-RMP worth it for professionals in Chennai?

Yes. The PMI-RMP is valued across Chennai's BFSI, IT and GCC, automotive and infrastructure employers, where certified project risk managers average around Rs 14 lakh and senior roles reach far higher. It sets specialists apart in a market with a shortage of credentialed risk talent. Talk to a learning advisor to plan your path.

Is the PMP required before the PMI-RMP?

No. The PMP is not a prerequisite for the PMI-RMP. You can apply directly based on your risk management experience and education. Many holders do carry both, as the credentials are complementary, with the PMI-RMP proving advanced, specialist risk competency.

Is the PMI-RMP recognised in Chennai?

Yes. As a PMI credential, the PMI-RMP is recognised by employers in Chennai and worldwide. It is especially valued in high-risk sectors such as BFSI, automotive, infrastructure and defence, where formal project risk management is often contractually or regulatorily required.

How long is the PMI-RMP valid and how is it renewed?

The PMI-RMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 30 PDUs in risk management topics within each three-year cycle through PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements system.

    Pricing

What is included in the PMI-RMP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams, downloadable templates, guidance on the PMI-RMP application, 32 contact hours of risk management education, and learner support with a course completion certificate. Request a quote for full inclusions.

How much does PMI-RMP training cost in Chennai?

Training cost varies by format, whether live online, classroom or corporate group training, and is available on request. The PMI exam fee is billed separately by PMI and is not part of the training fee. Contact us for current pricing and upcoming batches.

How much is the PMI-RMP exam fee?

For reference only, the PMI-RMP exam is around USD 520 for PMI members and USD 670 for non-members, billed by PMI in USD and subject to change. PMI membership, around USD 139 per year, lowers the exam fee and gives access to the Practice Standard for Project Risk Management. Verify current fees at pmi.org.

Do you offer group or corporate discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for PMOs, delivery units and risk teams. Contact us for a tailored quote for your organisation.

What payment methods and instalment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-RMP exam?

The PMI-RMP exam has 115 questions to be completed in 2.5 hours (150 minutes). It is closed book with multiple-choice questions, delivered via Pearson VUE online proctoring or at a test centre, and is based on the PMI-RMP Examination Content Outline effective January 2022.

What are the PMI-RMP exam domains and their weights?

The exam covers five domains per the 2022 ECO: Risk Strategy and Planning (20%), Risk Identification (20%), Risk Analysis (23%), Risk Response (22%) and Monitor and Close Risks (15%).

What is the passing score for the PMI-RMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed pass mark. The passing score is determined through psychometric analysis, and results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement. Aim for broad mastery across all five domains.

How many attempts do I get for the PMI-RMP exam?

You are allowed up to three attempts within the one-year eligibility period that begins when your application is approved.

What happens if I do not pass the first time?

You can retake the exam up to three times within your one-year eligibility window. A reexamination fee applies to the second and third attempts. Our practice questions, mock exams and trainer support help you close gaps before you sit again.
