What is Kaizen and who is this training for?

Is Kaizen training worth it in Trinidad and Tobago?

Yes. With energy revenues under pressure and manufacturers pushing to export, employers across Trinidad and Tobago increasingly value people who can remove waste and improve flow. Kaizen skills apply in energy, manufacturing, food and beverage, logistics, financial services and the public sector, and open roles from supervisor to plant manager.

Do I need prior Lean experience to attend?

No. There are no prerequisites. Some familiarity with Lean ideas such as waste and flow is helpful but not required, as the course introduces every concept from first principles. It is suitable for both newcomers and experienced practitioners.

What method and standards does the training follow?

The training is grounded in the Kaizen method developed within the Toyota Production System and popularised by Masaaki Imai in 1986. It covers the PDCA cycle, Gemba, the eight wastes, 5S and standard work, and links to Lean, Six Sigma and TQM practice. There is no single governing body for Kaizen itself.

How long is the Kaizen training?

The programme runs as a focused one-day, eight-hour session covering the full Kaizen method, from philosophy and PDCA through planning, running and sustaining a Kaizen event, with hands-on workshop simulation throughout. It can also be delivered as two half-days.

Is there a formal assessment for the Kaizen course?

No. This is a practical skills course with no formal assessment. Learning is reinforced through hands-on workshop simulation, team exercises and group discussion, so you build capability by doing rather than by testing.

Do I receive a certificate after the training?

Yes. On completing the one-day programme you receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning, recognising that you have completed practical Kaizen and continuous improvement training.

Is Kaizen a certification?

No. Kaizen training is a non-certification skills course. There is no awarding body or credential attached to the methodology itself. Instead, you gain practical facilitation and continuous improvement skills that you can apply in the workplace straight away.

How is my learning reinforced during the course?

Learning is reinforced through hands-on workshop simulation, real-world case examples, team activities and discussion. You practise planning and running elements of a Kaizen event using realistic process scenarios during the session.

Can I apply Kaizen at work straight after the course?

Yes. The method is immediately applicable. After the training you can plan and facilitate Kaizen events, lead daily improvement activities and build a pipeline of improvement work for your team, with no renewal or maintenance required.

Course Content

What will I learn in the Kaizen training?

You will learn the Kaizen philosophy and PDCA cycle, how to find waste at the Gemba, and how to plan, facilitate and sustain a Kaizen event. You also apply 5S, standard work, the spaghetti diagram and the Kaizen newspaper, and learn to embed daily improvement.

What tools and techniques are covered?

The course covers the PDCA cycle, Gemba walks, Muda, Mura and Muri, the eight wastes (DOWNTIME), 5 Whys and Fishbone analysis, 5S, standard work, time observation, the spaghetti diagram and the Kaizen newspaper for tracking actions.

Does the course include hands-on practice?

Yes. Hands-on workshop simulation runs throughout the day. You practise Gemba observation, root-cause analysis, future-state design and standard work using realistic scenarios, so you leave able to run an improvement event confidently.

What is a Kaizen event?

A Kaizen event, also called a Kaizen blitz or rapid improvement event, is a focused, time-boxed team workshop in which a cross-functional team analyses a specific process problem and implements improvements immediately. The course teaches you to plan, run and sustain one.

How does Kaizen relate to Lean and Six Sigma?

Kaizen is the engine of Lean transformation and complements Value Stream Mapping, 7 QC Tools, Poka Yoke and Lean Six Sigma. Kaizen events are often used in the Improve and Control phases of Six Sigma DMAIC to implement and sustain gains through team action.
