How to Get PMI-CP Certified in BeijingStep-by-Step Certification Process

The PMI-CP (PMI Construction Professional) certification path in Beijing is a structured single-exam track. You must complete the four-module training, document 3 years of construction or built-environment project experience earned within the past 10 years, then pass the 120-question, 230-minute PMI-CP exam delivered by PMI through Pearson VUE. From initial training to earning the PMI-CP designation typically takes 1-3 months.

Step 1: Confirm You Meet the PMI-CP Eligibility Requirements

Confirm you can document 3 years of on-the-job experience in construction projects or built-environment projects (infrastructure, real estate, utilities, etc.). The experience must have been earned within the past 10 years. There is no foundational PMI credential prerequisite for PMI-CP.

Step 2: Enroll in a Learning Program

Choose a learning format that aligns with your schedule and goals, such as a PMI-CP bootcamp, live virtual training, self-paced learning, or corporate group training. Enrollment provides access to PMI-aligned learning resources, study materials, and expert guidance.

Step 3: Submit Your PMI-CP Application via the PMI Candidate Portal

Create or sign in to your PMI account at pmi.org, complete the PMI-CP application, and document your training (32 contact hours) plus 3 years of construction project experience earned within the past 10 years. PMI membership (~$139/year) is optional but reduces the exam fee.

Step 4: Receive Application Approval and Register for the Exam

PMI reviews your application within ~5 business days. On approval, you receive eligibility to register for the PMI-CP exam through Pearson VUE. Your eligibility window opens for 1 year, during which you can attempt the exam up to 3 times.

    Step 5: Sit the 120-Question, 230-Minute PMI-CP Exam

Book a Pearson VUE slot , online proctored from home or office in China or at a Pearson VUE test centre. The exam includes 120 multiple-choice and scenario questions across the four PMI-CP domains, delivered over 230 minutes. You receive your preliminary result at the end of the session.

Step 6: Earn the PMI-CP Designation and Plan CCR Renewal

After passing the exam, PMI issues your PMI-CP digital badge and certificate. The designation is valid for three years and is renewable via PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) programme by earning PDUs in construction and built-environment-relevant content across the 3-year cycle.

It suits construction project managers, site leaders and client-side PMs.

    General

What is the PMI-CP certification and who is it for?

PMI-CP (PMI Construction Professional) is PMI's specialist credential for the construction industry, validating your ability to deliver complex construction projects. It covers four domains: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%). It suits construction project managers, site leaders and client-side PMs.

Why choose Invensis Learning for PMI-CP training in Beijing?

Invensis Learning is a PMI Authorized Training Partner offering PMI-aligned courseware, experienced trainers with construction backgrounds, flexible delivery formats, and guidance on the four mandatory modules and the PMI application. This helps you move from learning to a globally recognised construction credential with a clear path.

Is the PMI-CP recognised in Beijing and across China?

Yes. As a PMI credential, PMI-CP carries global recognition through PMI's network in over 200 countries. It is valued by Beijing's state-owned engineering groups, infrastructure contractors, developers and consultancies, and by Chinese firms delivering projects overseas.

How is PMI-CP different from the PMP?

The PMP is a broad project management credential across all industries, while PMI-CP is a specialist credential focused only on construction. Its largest domain is Contracts Management (50%), reflecting how central contracts and claims are in construction. The two are complementary, and the PMP is not a prerequisite.

How long is the PMI-CP certification valid?

PMI-CP is valid for three years from the date of certification. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle within each three-year cycle. The 56 PDUs from the four mandatory prerequisite modules can be applied toward renewal.

    Pricing

How much does PMI-CP training cost in Beijing?

Training fees vary by format, such as live virtual, classroom or corporate group training, and are available on request. The PMI exam fee is billed separately by PMI in USD under regional pricing and is not part of the training fee. Request a quote for the option that fits you.

What is included in the PMI-CP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams, downloadable templates, guidance on the four mandatory modules and the PMI application, and learner support with a course completion certificate and contact hours.

Is the exam fee included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the PMI-CP exam fee separately in USD under regional pricing. PMI members pay a lower exam fee than non-members, and membership also reduces renewal costs, so it is worth comparing before you apply.

Do you offer group or corporate discounts for PMI-CP training?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for project teams, PMOs and engineering divisions. Contact us for a tailored group quote for your team in Beijing.

What payment methods and instalment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the payment option that suits you.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-CP exam?

The PMI-CP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and the PMBOK Guide, Eighth Edition. Questions use single-answer and multiple-answer formats set in realistic construction scenarios.

How many questions are on the PMI-CP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 120 questions and an allotted time of 230 minutes (3 hours 50 minutes). It is delivered via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

What are the PMI-CP exam domains and their weights?

There are four domains per the official ECO: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%). Contracts Management is the largest, reflecting the centrality of contracts in construction delivery.

What is the passing score for the PMI-CP exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score that is not published as a fixed number. Results are reported as pass or fail, with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all four domains.

How many attempts do I get for the PMI-CP exam?

You get up to three attempts within the one-year eligibility window that begins when your application is approved. Reexamination fees apply to later attempts; confirm the current amounts with PMI before rebooking.
