Foundation validates your understanding of change concepts, while Practitioner proves you can apply them to real scenarios. Both levels are grounded in the Change Management Body of Knowledge (CMBoK).

    General

What is the Change Management Foundation and Practitioner certification?

It is a two-level qualification covering the knowledge, models and practices needed to lead the people and culture side of organisational change. Foundation validates your understanding of change concepts, while Practitioner proves you can apply them to real scenarios. Both levels are grounded in the Change Management Body of Knowledge (CMBoK).

Who should take this change management course in Birmingham?

It suits project and programme managers, HR and OD professionals, transformation leads, consultants and senior leaders who sponsor change. Across Birmingham's financial services, NHS, public sector and manufacturing employers, these are the roles increasingly expected to lead adoption, not just delivery.

Is the change management qualification worth it?

Yes. Established change manager roles in Birmingham start around £60,000 and rise with seniority into transformation and head of change positions. With HS2, financial services growth and public sector redesign driving demand, a recognised change credential is a strong career investment. Talk to a learning advisor about the path that fits you.

Is the change management certification recognised internationally?

Yes. The qualification is recognised in over 150 countries and is especially well respected in the UK, Europe and Australia, where organisational change management is an established profession. It complements project frameworks such as PRINCE2 and Agile.

Are there any prerequisites for the Foundation level?

None. The Foundation level is open to everyone regardless of education, experience or prior change knowledge. To sit the Practitioner exam you must first hold, or pass, the Foundation certification. The combined programme covers both levels in sequence.

What standard and syllabus is the course based on?

The course is mapped to the current Change Management Foundation and Practitioner exam syllabi and the Change Management Practitioner Guide, and grounded in the CMBoK maintained by the Change Management Institute. It covers ADKAR, Bridges, Lewin, Kotter, McKinsey 7-S and more.

    Pricing

How much does the training cost in Birmingham?

Fees vary by format and schedule, so pricing is available on request in GBP. The fee covers the combined five-day programme, courseware and exam-preparation resources for both levels. Request a quote to see current dates and options.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically includes accredited instructor-led training across both levels, CMBoK-aligned courseware, industry case studies, mock exams and practice questions, and learner support. Exam voucher inclusion varies by package, so confirm this when you enquire.

Are the exam fees included in the price?

Exam voucher inclusion depends on the package you choose. Some bundles include the Foundation and Practitioner exam vouchers, while others price them separately. Ask a learning advisor to confirm what your quote covers.

Do you offer corporate or group discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for teams across finance, the NHS and the public sector. Contact us for a tailored group quote for your Birmingham team.

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

How many exams are in the combined programme?

Two separate exams. The Foundation exam has 50 questions in 40 minutes, closed book, with a 50% pass mark (25 out of 50). The Practitioner exam has 5 scenario-based sections worth 16 marks each (80 total) over 2.5 hours, open book, with a 50% pass mark (40 out of 80). You must pass both to hold both credentials.

What is the Foundation exam format?

The Foundation exam is closed book with 50 single-answer multiple-choice questions to be completed in 40 minutes. The pass mark is 50%, which is 25 correct answers out of 50. It is usually taken at the end of the Foundation part of the programme.

What is the Practitioner exam format?

The Practitioner exam is open book and scenario-based, with 5 sections each worth 16 marks, giving 80 marks in total over 2.5 hours. The pass mark is 50%, which is 40 out of 80 marks. The Change Management Practitioner Guide is permitted in the exam.

What does open book mean for the Practitioner exam?

You may use the Change Management Practitioner Guide during the Practitioner exam. However, the scenario sections require analysis and judgement, so you cannot simply look up answers. The course builds both deep method knowledge and efficient guide navigation.

What happens if I do not pass an exam first time?

You can resit the exam that you did not pass. The course includes mock exams, practice questions and exam-technique guidance for both levels to help you prepare thoroughly. Ask a learning advisor about resit arrangements and any related fees.

    Course Content

What topics does the change management course cover?

The course covers five topic areas: Change and the Individual, Change and the Organisation, Communication and Stakeholder Engagement, Change Practice, and Personal and Professional Management. Foundation builds understanding; Practitioner develops applied skill across the same areas.

Do I need prior experience to take the course?

No prior change experience is required for the Foundation level, which starts from first principles. The Practitioner level then builds applied skill through scenario work. The programme is designed to support both newcomers and experienced practitioners formalising their knowledge.

    What learning materials are provided?

You receive CMBoK-aligned courseware for both levels, industry case studies illustrating change models and planning, practice questions, and mock exams for the Foundation and Practitioner papers. Materials support both exam readiness and workplace application.
