Your Route to Senior Programme Leadership in New ZealandWhat PgMP Certification Delivers

The Program Management Professional (PgMP) is PMI's senior credential for professionals who manage multiple related projects as one coordinated programme to deliver strategic benefits an organisation could not achieve by running those projects alone. Delivered as instructor-led PgMP certification training in New Zealand, this programme builds the strategic alignment, governance and benefits-realisation capability the credential validates. The course is grounded in PMI's PgMP Examination Content Outline and The Standard for Program Management, Fourth Edition, and covers all five performance domains: Strategic Program Management, Program Life Cycle Management, Benefits Management, Stakeholder Engagement and Governance. You also receive structured guidance on the PgMP application and the multi-rater panel review that sets this credential apart from other qualifications. Held by fewer than 3,000 practitioners worldwide, PgMP is a rare marker of programme leadership valued by New Zealand employers in government, financial services, technology and infrastructure. Available in live virtual and corporate formats, the training gives you application support, practice questions and mock exams to move from learning to certified with a clear, supported path.

How to Get PgMP Certified in New ZealandStep-by-Step Certification Process

The path to Online PgMP certification is designed for experienced program leaders managing multiple related projects aligned to strategic business objectives. The certification process includes eligibility verification, PMI application review, peer-panel assessment, and the final certification examination.

    Step 1: Confirm PgMP Eligibility

Verify you meet one of the three eligibility sets (Set A / Set B / Set C) , secondary diploma OR bachelor's degree OR GAC-accredited bachelor's, plus 48/48/36 months of project management (or PMP) experience plus 84/48/36 months of program management experience within the past 15 years.

Step 2: Enrol in PgMP Training

Choose your preferred Invensis Learning PgMP cohort (3-Day Live Online Bootcamp, E-Learning, or Corporate Group Training). On enrolment you receive PMI-aligned PgMP courseware, panel-submission templates, scenario mock-exam material, and the 24 contact hours you need for your PMI application.

Step 3: Document Program Management Experience for Panel Review

Compile your program management experience submission to PMI's evaluation standard: programs led, components managed, governance forums chaired, benefits delivered. Invensis Learning's submission templates and reviewer feedback help you avoid the common rejection patterns PMI flags.

Step 4: Submit the PgMP Application to PMI

Submit your application via the PMI candidate portal. PMI performs an initial review, then forwards the experience submission to the peer panel for evaluation. The panel-review window typically runs 60-90 days. Pay the PgMP application/exam fee: ~$800 (PMI member) or ~$1,000 (non-member).

Step 5: Sit the 170-Question PgMP Exam via Pearson VUE

After panel approval you receive a one-year exam eligibility window. Book your PgMP exam through Pearson VUE , online proctored from your home or office in New Zealand, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. The exam is 170 scenario-based multiple-choice questions over 240 minutes.

Step 6: Earn the PgMP Credential and Plan CCR Renewal

On passing, PMI issues your PgMP digital badge and certificate. The credential is valid for three years; renew via PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) programme by earning 60 PDUs across the 3-year cycle in program-relevant content.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

Yes. With a record infrastructure pipeline and centralised digital government delivery, certified programme leaders are in strong demand.

    General

Is the PgMP certification worth it in New Zealand?

Yes. PgMP validates senior programme leadership and positions you for roles such as programme manager, head of PMO and portfolio director, where senior programme roles in Auckland average around NZ$179K a year. With a record infrastructure pipeline and centralised digital government delivery, certified programme leaders are in strong demand.

What is the PgMP certification and who is it for?

The Program Management Professional (PgMP) is PMI's senior credential for professionals who manage multiple related projects as one coordinated programme to deliver strategic benefits. It suits senior programme managers, PMO leaders, delivery directors and transformation leaders with substantial programme experience.

Do I need a PMP before taking the PgMP?

No. PMP is not a mandatory prerequisite for PgMP. However, an active PMP satisfies the project management experience requirement across all three eligibility sets, so PMP holders only need to document their programme management experience.

    Is the PgMP recognised internationally?

Yes. As a PMI credential, PgMP carries global recognition on par with PMP, which is recognised in over 200 countries. With fewer than 3,000 practitioners worldwide, it is a distinctive marker of programme leadership valued by senior employers in New Zealand and abroad.

How long is the PgMP certification valid?

PgMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle, with a minimum of 8 PDUs in each area, within every three-year continuing certification requirements (CCR) cycle.

    Pricing

How much does PgMP training cost in New Zealand?

PgMP training fees in New Zealand vary by format and cohort and are available on request. The PMI exam fee is billed separately in USD under regional pricing and is not part of the training fee. Talk to a learning advisor for a tailored quote.

What is included in the PgMP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams, exam simulator access, downloadable templates, PgMP application and panel-review support, learner support, and a course completion certificate with contact hours. Request a quote for full inclusions.

Is the PMI exam fee included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the PgMP exam fee separately in USD under regional pricing (for reference, around USD 800 for members and USD 1,000 for non-members). PMI membership reduces the exam fee and gives free access to The Standard for Program Management. Verify current fees at pmi.org.

Do you offer group or corporate discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for PMOs, transformation offices and leadership teams across New Zealand. Contact us for a tailored group quote.

    Exam

What is the format of the PgMP exam?

The PgMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PgMP Examination Content Outline and The Standard for Program Management, Fourth Edition. It covers five performance domains, with results reported as Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement.

How many questions are on the PgMP exam and how long is it?

The PgMP exam has 170 questions and an allotted time of four hours. It is delivered via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

What are the PgMP exam domains and their weights?

Five domains: Strategic Program Management (11%), Program Life Cycle Management (44%), Benefits Management (11%), Stakeholder Engagement (16%) and Governance (18%). The training covers all five in line with the current ECO.

What is the PgMP panel review?

What if I do not pass the exam the first time?

PMI permits up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility window from application approval. Re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts. Our prep resources and mock exams are designed to help you pass with confidence.

    Course Content

What topics are covered in the PgMP training?

The training covers the five PgMP performance domains: Strategic Program Management, Program Life Cycle Management, Benefits Management, Stakeholder Engagement and Governance, plus guidance on the PMI application, panel review and exam strategy.

Which standard and edition is the training based on?

The courseware is aligned to PMI's PgMP Examination Content Outline and The Standard for Program Management, Fourth Edition, which is the primary reference framework for the exam.

Do I need prior experience to benefit from the course?

The course is built for experienced practitioners, since PgMP itself requires substantial programme management experience. Anyone can attend the training, but to sit the exam you must meet PMI's eligibility requirements. Our team can help you assess your eligibility.
