The course covers six modules: Lean origins and the Toyota Production System, the five Lean principles, the eight wastes (DOWNTIME), foundational Lean tools (5S, value stream mapping, Kanban, standard work and visual management), Kaizen and the PDCA cycle, and applying Lean across industries.

What are the eight wastes I will learn?

You learn the eight wastes using the DOWNTIME acronym: Defects, Overproduction, Waiting, Non-utilised talent, Transportation, Inventory, Motion and Extra processing. You also explore Muda, Mura and Muri so you can target unevenness and overburden as well.

Which Lean tools does the course teach?

The course introduces 5S workplace organisation, an introduction to value stream mapping, pull systems and Kanban, standard work, visual management, and the Kaizen and PDCA improvement cycle, with practical exercises for each.

Are there hands-on exercises?

Yes. The programme includes a waste identification exercise, a value stream mapping data exercise and a 5S workplace assessment activity, alongside case study discussions drawn from pharma, medical device, healthcare and service settings.

Is the training relevant outside manufacturing?
