What Is Kanban and How Does It Transform Work FlowA Visual Pull System for Any Team

Kanban Training in Costa Rica introduces the Kanban method, a visual, pull-based system for managing the flow of work in both manufacturing and knowledge work. Originating in the Toyota Production System under Taiichi Ohno in the 1950s and later adapted for software, IT and service teams by David J. Anderson, Kanban uses signals, boards and work-in-progress limits so work moves only when there is real downstream demand. The programme suits professionals across Costa Rica's medical device plants, free-zone manufacturers and fast-growing nearshore software and shared-services sector who want to cut lead times, expose bottlenecks and deliver more predictably. You learn to design manufacturing pull loops and supermarkets as well as Agile Kanban boards, WIP limits and flow metrics. Over a focused one-day programme you move from theory to hands-on practice, sizing kanban quantities, building boards and reading a Cumulative Flow Diagram. Start applying Kanban to your own workflows with Invensis Learning.

Skills You Will Build in This Kanban CoursePractical, Job-Ready Capabilities

This training shows you exactly what you will be able to do: visualise work, design pull systems, limit WIP and measure flow. By the end of the one-day programme you can apply Kanban to manufacturing pull loops and Agile knowledge-work boards alike.

    Design Manufacturing Pull Systems

Set up production and withdrawal kanban, supermarkets and two-bin systems so material moves only on a real withdrawal signal, eliminating overproduction on the line.

    Size Kanban Loops Correctly

Calculate kanban quantities and the number of cards from demand, replenishment lead time and safety factor, and use takt time to check that the system is sized right.

    Build Agile Kanban Boards

Design boards with columns, swimlanes, classes of service and a clear Definition of Done to make knowledge work visible for software, IT and service teams.

    Set and Manage WIP Limits

Apply work-in-progress limits to stop starting and start finishing, surface bottlenecks, and turn a simple task board into a true pull-based flow system.

    Measure and Improve Flow

Track lead time, cycle time and throughput, apply Little's Law, and read a Cumulative Flow Diagram to find where work stalls and drive data-driven improvement.

    Implement and Sustain Kanban

Roll out Kanban with the start-with-what-you-do-now principle, combine it with Scrum as Scrumban, and keep WIP limits and kanban quantities improving over time.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

Kanban is a visual, pull-based method for managing the flow of work, using signals, boards and work-in-progress limits so work moves only when there is real demand. This training suits operations, manufacturing, supply chain, IT, software and Agile professionals in Costa Rica who want better flow, whether on a plant floor or a delivery team.

    General

What is Kanban and who is this training for?

Kanban is a visual, pull-based method for managing the flow of work, using signals, boards and work-in-progress limits so work moves only when there is real demand. This training suits operations, manufacturing, supply chain, IT, software and Agile professionals in Costa Rica who want better flow, whether on a plant floor or a delivery team.

Where did the Kanban method come from?

Kanban began in the Toyota Production System, developed by Taiichi Ohno in the 1950s as a pull-based production system inspired by supermarket replenishment. It was later adapted for software, IT and knowledge work by David J. Anderson in the 2000s. The course covers both the manufacturing and knowledge-work forms of Kanban.

Is Kanban worth learning in Costa Rica?

Yes. Costa Rican employers in medical devices, free-zone manufacturing and nearshore software compete on speed and predictability, so people who can design pull systems, limit WIP and manage flow are in demand. Kanban is a practical skill you can apply to your own workflows immediately after the course.

Do I need prior Lean or Agile experience?

No. The course has no prerequisites and introduces every Kanban concept from first principles. Some familiarity with Lean or production operations helps for the manufacturing modules but is not required, and the Agile Kanban modules assume no prior knowledge.

Does this training cover both manufacturing and Agile Kanban?

Yes. You learn manufacturing Kanban, including production and withdrawal kanban, supermarkets, kanban sizing and just-in-time pull, and Agile Kanban, including boards, WIP limits, flow metrics, the Cumulative Flow Diagram and Scrumban. The method applies across plants, software and service teams.

    Pricing

How much does Kanban training cost in Costa Rica?

Pricing depends on the delivery format, group size and whether it is booked for an individual or a corporate team. Fees for live virtual, classroom and on-site options are available on request. Contact a learning advisor for a quote tailored to your needs.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led sessions across all six Kanban modules, hands-on design exercises, course materials, real-world manufacturing and knowledge-work examples, and a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning. Request a quote to confirm the inclusions for your chosen format.

Do you offer group or corporate pricing?

Yes. Corporate group training is available with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for plants, PMOs and software teams across Costa Rica. Ask about corporate and group pricing for a tailored quote.

Is booking a full team more cost-effective?

Group bookings are usually more cost-effective per learner and can be delivered on-site or live virtual to suit your organisation. Talk to a learning advisor about the best option for your team size and location.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and can arrange invoicing for corporate bookings. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for Kanban training?

No. Kanban training is a non-certification course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on design exercises, case examples and group discussion during the programme, rather than a formal test.

    Will I receive a certificate?

Yes. You receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning after finishing the programme. It recognises your participation and the skills you built; it is not a credential from an external awarding body, as Kanban training has none.

How are my skills assessed during the course?

Skills are applied through practical exercises rather than a graded exam. You size kanban quantities, design pull loops and Agile boards, set WIP limits and interpret a Cumulative Flow Diagram, so you leave able to use the method on real workflows.

    Is Kanban itself a certification?

Kanban is a method, not a certification, and this course does not award an external credential or involve an exam. It focuses on building practical, job-ready flow-management skills that apply immediately in manufacturing and knowledge-work settings.

    How long is the training?

The programme runs for one day (8 hours), or can be split as two half-days totalling 8 hours. It covers all six Kanban modules with hands-on design exercises throughout, and no examination is taken on completion.

    Course Content

What will I learn in the Kanban course?

You learn to design manufacturing pull systems, size kanban loops, build Agile Kanban boards, set and manage WIP limits, measure flow with lead time, cycle time and throughput, read a Cumulative Flow Diagram, and plan a Kanban rollout in a plant or software team.

What modules does the training include?

The course covers six modules: Kanban origins and pull production; manufacturing Kanban types and mechanics; kanban sizing and implementation; knowledge-work Kanban boards and WIP limits; flow metrics and the Cumulative Flow Diagram; and implementing and sustaining Kanban.

Does the course include hands-on practice?

Yes. Hands-on exercises run throughout the day, including push-versus-pull identification, kanban quantity calculation, kanban loop design, Agile board design, WIP-limit setting and Cumulative Flow Diagram interpretation, all applied to realistic scenarios.

What tools does the training reference?

The training references physical and electronic kanban systems for manufacturing and digital Kanban boards such as Jira, Trello and Azure DevOps for knowledge work. The focus is on the method and how to apply it, so the skills transfer to whichever tools your organisation uses.

Does it cover Scrumban and WIP limits?

Yes. You learn how to set and manage work-in-progress limits, and how Scrumban combines Kanban's visual flow and WIP limits with Scrum's cadence, so teams moving between the two frameworks can apply both effectively.

    Enrollment

How do I enrol in Kanban training?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete your booking, and you receive access to the schedule, course materials and joining details. A learning advisor can help you pick the right session.

    What delivery formats are available?

Kanban training is available as live virtual (online) instructor-led sessions, classroom training and corporate on-site delivery. Live virtual sessions let you join from anywhere in Costa Rica, while on-site training brings the course to your workplace.

Can the course be delivered on-site for my team?

Yes. Corporate on-site delivery is available and is especially effective, as your team can design Kanban systems for their own real workflows during the exercises. Contact us to arrange a session at your Costa Rica location.

    How soon can I start?

New public sessions are scheduled regularly, and corporate sessions can be arranged around your team's availability. See upcoming schedules or talk to a learning advisor to find the earliest date that suits you.

What is the reschedule or cancellation policy?

Rescheduling and cancellations are handled per our published policy, and we aim to be flexible where possible. Reach out to our support team for the details that apply to your booking.
