What Is the Observability Foundation Certification?Your Route into Modern Observability

The Observability Foundation (OBSF) certification is a vendor-neutral credential that validates a working understanding of how to observe, monitor and troubleshoot modern software systems. Delivered as Observability Foundation certification training in Costa Rica, this programme prepares DevOps, SRE and platform professionals to apply the three pillars of observability, metrics, logs and traces, across cloud-native and microservices environments. Awarded by the DevOps Institute (now part of PeopleCert), OBSF is grounded in the current Observability Foundation Exam Blueprint (Body of Knowledge). You learn to work with OpenTelemetry, define SLIs, SLOs and SLAs, manage error budgets, and build alerting and incident-response practices that reduce downtime. The exam is a 40-question, 60-minute, open-book paper, and the credential is recognised globally and stays valid for three years. For professionals in Costa Rica's fast-growing nearshore, cloud and shared-services sector, OBSF is a practical way to prove observability skills that multinational employers in San Jose actively hire for. Start your observability journey with Invensis Learning and move from basic monitoring to true observability.

Invensis Learning is a Peoplecert Accredited Training Organization (2778) in Costa Rica, approved to deliver official Observability Foundation training using accredited courseware and standards.

    General

Is the Observability Foundation certification worth it in Costa Rica?

Yes. Observability is a core reliability skill across Costa Rica's IT services, nearshore, cloud and R&D sectors, and certified practitioners are scarce. OBSF proves you can apply the three pillars and modern tooling, helping you compete for DevOps, SRE and platform roles that multinationals in San Jose actively hire for.

What is the Observability Foundation certification?

Observability Foundation (OBSF) is a vendor-neutral credential from the DevOps Institute (now part of PeopleCert). It validates a foundational understanding of observability concepts, the three pillars of metrics, logs and traces, OpenTelemetry, SLIs, SLOs and SLAs, and the practices needed to observe modern IT systems.

Who should take the Observability Foundation course?

It suits DevOps engineers, site reliability engineers, platform engineers, developers and IT operations professionals who want to formalise their observability knowledge. Managers and technical leads overseeing observability tooling and SLO frameworks also benefit from the shared vocabulary it provides.

Are there prerequisites for Observability Foundation?

No. Observability Foundation has no formal prerequisites and is open to all. Familiarity with DevOps concepts or IT operations is helpful but not required, which makes it a good entry point into modern reliability engineering.

How long is the Observability Foundation certification valid?

The credential is valid for three years. To keep it current you renew by earning Continuing Education Units (CEUs) through DevOps Institute membership and continuing education activities within the three-year cycle.

    Pricing

What is included in the Observability Foundation training fee?

Your fee typically includes instructor-led training, aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams and learner support. Exam voucher inclusion is confirmed at enrolment. To see current pricing and what your package covers, request a quote from a learning advisor.

How much does the Observability Foundation course cost in Costa Rica?

Pricing varies by delivery format and whether the exam is bundled, so it is available on request. Contact us for a tailored quote covering training, materials and exam options for individuals or teams in Costa Rica.

Is the exam fee included in the training price?

The exam is often bundled with accredited training, but this depends on the package you choose. Confirm exam voucher inclusion with your learning advisor before you enrol so there are no surprises.

Do you offer group or corporate discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for engineering teams, SRE squads and delivery organisations. Ask about corporate or group pricing for a tailored quote.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you best.

    Exam

What is the format of the Observability Foundation exam?

The exam is an open-book, single-answer multiple-choice paper based on the DevOps Institute Observability Foundation Exam Blueprint. It is delivered online with proctoring via PeopleCert OnVUE or at an authorised test centre.

How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

The Observability Foundation exam has 40 questions and a time limit of 60 minutes (one hour). It is an open-book exam with single-answer multiple-choice questions.

What is the passing score for Observability Foundation?

The pass mark is 65%, meaning you must answer at least 26 of the 40 questions correctly. Focus on broad understanding across all topic areas rather than any single module.

What topics does the exam cover?

The exam covers observability principles and the three pillars, metrics, logs and distributed tracing, SLIs, SLOs, SLAs and error budgets, OpenTelemetry and telemetry pipelines, alerting and incident response, and observability in SRE and AIOps.

What if I do not pass the exam on the first attempt?

Our training includes mock exams and practice questions designed to build first-attempt readiness. If a resit is needed, verify the current re-sit policy with the DevOps Institute, and our team can guide you through booking another attempt.

Yes. There are no formal prerequisites, so beginners are welcome. The programme starts with core concepts before moving into tooling and practice, and trainer support plus practice questions help newcomers build confidence.

What will I learn in the Observability Foundation training?

You will learn to apply the three pillars, instrument systems with OpenTelemetry, define SLIs, SLOs and error budgets, design effective alerting and incident response, manage telemetry pipelines and sampling, and connect observability to SRE and AIOps.

How long is the training and how is it delivered?

The programme runs for 16 hours, usually across two full days or four half-days. It is delivered live virtual (online), in the classroom, or as customised corporate training for teams.
