The exam focuses on the DMAIC framework at an introductory level, the seven wastes, basic process mapping, data collection, and the Yellow Belt's role within Lean Six Sigma project teams. Through a combination of multiple-choice questions, candidates are tested on their ability to apply Lean Six Sigma principles in real-world process-improvement environments.
Roles, Demand and Pay
A Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt opens the door to process improvement and quality roles across New Zealand's growing manufacturing, healthcare, food and financial services sectors. As manufacturers reskill their workforce and employers chase productivity and waste reduction, professionals who understand DMAIC and Lean tools are increasingly sought after. Practical Tools You Can Apply at Work
This Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt training builds practical process improvement skills mapped to the IASSC Body of Knowledge. By the end of the course you can support DMAIC projects, apply core Lean tools, and read basic quality data with confidence.
Skills covered in the Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt start with the DMAIC method: how to Define a problem, Measure a process, and Control gains, so you can support improvement projects with a clear, repeatable structure.
Learn to picture how work really flows using SIPOC diagrams, process maps and value stream mapping, so you can see where delays, handoffs and waste occur and explain them clearly to a project team.
Build practical command of foundational Lean tools including 5S, Kanban and Poka-Yoke (mistake proofing), and apply the seven wastes to reduce inefficiency in everyday operations.
Understand the basic metrics that quantify performance, such as DPU, DPMO, first time yield, rolled throughput yield, cycle time and the cost of poor quality, so improvement can be measured, not guessed.
Gain the foundational data literacy to interpret descriptive statistics, distributions and simple graphical analysis at the awareness level the Yellow Belt expects, with no prior statistics background needed.
Learn how teams hold on to gains using control methods, statistical process control charts and simple control plans, so improvements stick and processes stay stable over time.

"The pace and learnings from the course were good, liked how the trainer went through everything and always checked if there were questions and when there were he gave thorough answers."
"Alex Rajan's expertise, engaging teaching style, and the depth of knowledge he imparted made the training sessions not only informative but truly enjoyable. His skill in breaking down complex concepts into understandable components demonstrated mastery of the subject matter and a sincere commitment to enhancing our learning experience."
"Respective communication, steady pace of the class, not too fast but as well not too slow. A lot of space for open discussions and questionings. its not 5/5 because I believe the sessions consist of too much information for such short time. It could be organized in 1 more day, with less information per day, to have a better understanding."
"I enjoyed the constant interaction and Knowledge Checks - it helped to retain a lot of the information. Sathish was great and always willing to explain any queries we had. Thanks Sathish!!"
"The overall quality of information was great "
"In terms of content, all good. But poor time management. Time expected for breaks was never compliant (ie. if teacher said he was taking 10 mins break, it ended up being 20. For 50 mins break, teacher was showing up AT least 10-15 mins late...) Also, during second day I asked one question about a test and teacher seem disappointed for me to ask and gave me a whole speech of me not retaining all information while reading (after hours of exhausted training) also letting me know people who does not focus tend to have Low IQ... Also, having to spend time just waiting for teacher to end notes that I guess it should have been ready already for the lesson (at least, if the teacher is expecting for the alum to memorize and know everything at once) "
"It was good."
