What Is the Observability Foundation Certification?A Vendor-Neutral Reliability Credential

The Observability Foundation (OBSF) certification is a vendor-neutral DevOps Institute credential that validates your ability to understand and implement observability in modern IT systems. Observability Foundation certification training in Rwanda gives DevOps engineers, SREs and IT operations teams a clear route from the three pillars of metrics, logs and traces to production-ready practice. The course is aligned to the DevOps Institute Observability Foundation Body of Knowledge and the current OBSF Exam Blueprint, covering the three pillars, OpenTelemetry, SLIs, SLOs, SLAs, error budgets, alerting and incident response. Delivered live virtual, classroom and in corporate formats, it prepares you for the 40-question, 60-minute open-book exam and the 65% pass mark. As Rwanda accelerates Vision 2050 and its national fintech strategy, banks, telecoms and government platforms in Kigali need engineers who can keep distributed systems reliable. Earning the OBSF credential with Invensis Learning is a practical first step into that demand.

Invensis Learning is a Peoplecert Accredited Training Organization (2778) in Rwanda, approved to deliver official Observability Foundation training using accredited courseware and standards.

Observability Foundation (OBSF) is a vendor-neutral DevOps Institute credential that validates a foundational understanding of observability concepts, the three pillars of metrics, logs and traces, SLIs, SLOs and observability tooling. It suits DevOps, SRE, platform and IT operations professionals.

    General

What is the Observability Foundation certification?

Observability Foundation (OBSF) is a vendor-neutral DevOps Institute credential that validates a foundational understanding of observability concepts, the three pillars of metrics, logs and traces, SLIs, SLOs and observability tooling. It suits DevOps, SRE, platform and IT operations professionals.

Who offers the Observability Foundation certification?

The certification is offered by the DevOps Institute, now part of PeopleCert, a globally recognised body for DevOps and reliability practices. Invensis Learning is an Authorised Training Provider that delivers the course and prepares you for the exam.

Is the OBSF certification worth it in Rwanda?

Yes. As Rwanda scales digital services under Vision 2050, banks, fintechs, telecoms and government platforms need engineers who can keep systems reliable. OBSF proves modern observability skills and supports roles such as DevOps engineer, SRE and platform engineer.

What are the prerequisites for Observability Foundation?

There are no formal prerequisites, and the certification is open to all. Familiarity with DevOps concepts or IT operations is helpful but not required, so beginners and experienced engineers can both take the course.

What are the three pillars of observability?

The three pillars are metrics (measurements over time), logs (timestamped event records) and traces (end-to-end records of requests across distributed systems). Together they let you understand system behaviour, including failures you did not predict.

How long is the OBSF certification valid?

The Observability Foundation certification is valid for three years. It is renewed by earning Continuing Education Units (CEUs) through DevOps Institute membership and continuing education activities.

    Pricing

How much does Observability Foundation training cost in Rwanda?

Training fees vary by format and provider, so pricing is available on request. Contact us for a tailored quote for live virtual, classroom or corporate delivery in Rwanda. The DevOps Institute exam fee is billed separately in USD.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically includes Body of Knowledge-aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams, learner support and a course completion certificate. Exam voucher inclusion varies by package, so confirm the details when you enrol.

Is the exam fee included in the training price?

Exam voucher inclusion depends on the package. DevOps Institute bills the OBSF exam separately in USD, and pricing varies by region and channel. Ask a learning advisor which of our packages include the exam voucher.

Do you offer group or corporate discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for engineering, SRE and operations teams. Contact us for a group quote for your organisation in Rwanda.

We accept major cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

What is the format of the OBSF exam?

The Observability Foundation exam is an open-book, multiple-choice examination with single-answer questions, delivered online and proctored via PeopleCert OnVUE or at an authorised test centre. It is based on the DevOps Institute Observability Foundation Body of Knowledge.

How many questions are on the OBSF exam and how long is it?

The exam has 40 multiple-choice questions and you have 60 minutes (one hour) to complete it. It is open book with single-answer questions.

What is the passing score for Observability Foundation?

The passing score is 65%, which means answering at least 26 of the 40 questions correctly. Broad understanding across all topic areas is the best way to pass.

What if I do not pass the exam the first time?

You can resit the exam; DevOps Institute retake policies and fees apply, so confirm the current terms before rebooking. Our trainers provide first-attempt guidance and practice questions to help you prepare with confidence.

What topics does the exam cover?

The exam covers observability principles and the three pillars, metrics, logs and distributed tracing, SLIs, SLOs, SLAs and error budgets, OpenTelemetry and telemetry pipelines, alerting and incident response, and the role of observability in SRE and AIOps.

    Course Content

Can a beginner take this course?

Yes. There are no formal prerequisites, so beginners can enrol. The course starts from what observability is and how it differs from monitoring, then builds up to the three pillars, SLOs, OpenTelemetry and incident response, with trainer support throughout.

What topics are covered in the training?

The training covers the six modules of the OBSF Body of Knowledge: observability principles and the three pillars, metrics, logs and tracing, SLIs, SLOs, SLAs and error budgets, OpenTelemetry and telemetry pipelines, alerting and incident response, and SRE, AIOps and exam preparation.

    What learning resources are provided?

You receive Body of Knowledge-aligned courseware, case studies, practice questions and mock exams. Materials illustrate observability in realistic cloud-native and DevOps scenarios to help you apply concepts at work.

Are practice questions and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and mock exams mapped to the 40-question, 60-minute open-book format, so you can identify weak areas and build exam readiness before the real test.
