What Is the PMI Risk Management Professional Credential?Your Route to Specialist Risk Expertise

The PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) is PMI's specialist certification in project risk management, recognising your ability to identify, assess, respond to and monitor risk across the project lifecycle. PMI-RMP certification training in Zambia prepares project and programme professionals to turn uncertainty into a source of competitive advantage, and to stand apart from general project management practitioners. The credential is built on the PMI-RMP Examination Content Outline (ECO), effective January 2022, and draws on the PMI Practice Standard for Project Risk Management and the current PMBOK Guide. It covers risk work across predictive, agile and hybrid delivery, so what you learn applies to real projects in copper mining, construction, financial services and energy. Delivered in live virtual and classroom formats by PMI-aligned trainers, the training suits risk specialists, senior project managers and PMO professionals. You gain application guidance, practice questions and mock exams to move from learning to a certified, globally respected risk credential with a clear, supported path.

Your PMI-RMP Career Path in ZambiaRoles, Demand and Pay Outlook

The RMP has become a strong marker of specialist risk capability across Zambia, valued by mining houses, banks, energy utilities and infrastructure employers that run large, uncertain, capital-intensive projects. Your Zambia Career Transformation

Where You Stand Today Versus After PMI-RMP

    A Clear Career Shift

Zambia's project economy is expanding with copper investment, energy build-out and corridor infrastructure, and employers increasingly separate certified risk professionals from the rest. Here is which side of that line you want to be on.

How to Get PMI-RMP Certified in ZambiaStep-by-Step Certification Process

The PMI-RMP certification path in Zambia is a pure exam track: once your PMI application is approved, you proceed directly to the 115-question, 150-minute exam administered through Pearson VUE , no peer-panel review is required. From initial training to exam day typically takes 6-10 weeks, including application processing.

    Step 1: Confirm PMI-RMP Eligibility

Verify you meet one of the three eligibility sets. Set A: high school or secondary school diploma (or global equivalent) + 36 months / 3 years of project risk management experience within the last 5 years + 40 hours of project risk management education. Set B: bachelor's degree or higher (or global equivalent) + 24 months / 2 years of project risk management experience within the last 5 years + 30 hours of project risk management education. Set C: bachelor's degree or higher from a GAC-accredited program + 12 months / 1 year of project risk management experience within the past 5 years + 30 hours of project risk management education. Education hours must be in project risk management topics specifically.

Step 2: Enroll in a Learning Program

Choose a learning format that aligns with your schedule and goals, such as a PMI-RMP bootcamp, live virtual sessions, self-paced learning, or corporate group training. Enrollment provides access to PMI-aligned courseware, practice assessments, and expert-led guidance.

Step 3: Register on the PMI Candidate Portal

Create or sign in to your PMI account at pmi.org. PMI membership (~$139/year) is optional but reduces the PMI-RMP exam fee from ~$670 to ~$520 and gives access to the PMI Risk Management Practice Guide and the PMI Standard for Risk Management.

Step 4: Submit the PMI-RMP Application to PMI

Submit your application via the PMI candidate portal: document your project risk management experience, list your 30 or 40 contact hours, and pay the application/exam fee (~$520 PMI member or ~$670 non-member). PMI typically processes applications within 5-10 business days. Unlike PfMP, no peer-panel review is required.

Step 5: Sit the 115-Question PMI-RMP Exam via Pearson VUE

Once approved, you receive a one-year exam eligibility window. Book your PMI-RMP exam through Pearson VUE , online proctored from your home or office in Zambia, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. The exam is 115 multiple-choice and scenario questions over 150 minutes, covering all five risk management domains.

Step 6: Earn the PMI-RMP Credential and Plan CCR Renewal

On passing, PMI issues your PMI-RMP digital badge and certificate. The credential is valid for three years; renew via PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) programme by earning 30 PDUs in risk-relevant content across the 3-year cycle.

The Risk Management Skills You Will BuildSkills Mapped to All Five Risk Domains

This PMI-RMP training builds the practical risk capabilities employers expect, mapped to the five domains of PMI's Examination Content Outline. By the end you can identify, analyse, respond to and monitor risk on real projects, and defend your decisions with recognised tools and techniques.

    Set Risk Strategy and Planning

Skills covered in PMI-RMP start here: build the risk management approach, framework and governance for a project. Analyse project documents, confirm risk thresholds and appetite with stakeholders, and tailor a risk management plan to predictive, agile or hybrid delivery.

    Identify Threats and Opportunities

Facilitate structured risk identification using brainstorming, the Delphi technique, SWOT, prompt lists and assumption and constraint analysis. Document risks clearly in the risk register and validate coverage across every project area.

    Analyse and Prioritise Risks

Apply qualitative analysis with the probability and impact matrix, then quantitative tools such as Monte Carlo simulation, decision-tree analysis, sensitivity analysis and expected monetary value to prioritise risks and quantify their effect on cost and schedule.

    Plan and Implement Risk Responses

Develop response strategies for threats (avoid, transfer, mitigate, accept) and opportunities (exploit, share, enhance, accept). Assign owners, set triggers, build contingency and fallback plans, and fold reserves into the project baselines.

    Monitor and Close Risks

Track identified, residual and secondary risks against triggers, run periodic risk reviews, report the changing risk profile to stakeholders, and formally close risks while capturing lessons learned for future projects.

Manage Risk in Agile and Hybrid Delivery

Apply the same rigour across predictive, agile and hybrid environments as reflected in the January 2022 Examination Content Outline, so you can lead risk on any delivery approach used across Zambian projects.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

The PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) is PMI's specialist credential in project risk management, recognising your ability to identify, assess, respond to and monitor project risk. It suits project risk managers, senior project managers, PMO analysts and risk consultants across Zambia's mining, banking, energy and infrastructure sectors.

    General

What is the PMI-RMP certification and who is it for?

The PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) is PMI's specialist credential in project risk management, recognising your ability to identify, assess, respond to and monitor project risk. It suits project risk managers, senior project managers, PMO analysts and risk consultants across Zambia's mining, banking, energy and infrastructure sectors.

Is the PMI-RMP worth it for professionals in Zambia?

Yes. The RMP proves specialist risk skills that Zambian employers value on high-value copper, energy and infrastructure projects, and it maps to senior roles from Project Risk Manager to Head of Risk. With certified risk talent scarce, holders often command a pay premium over uncertified peers.

Is the PMP required before the PMI-RMP?

No. The PMP is not a prerequisite for the PMI-RMP. You can apply directly based on your risk management experience and education. Many RMP holders also hold the PMP, as the two credentials are complementary, but it is not required.

How long is the PMI-RMP valid and how is it renewed?

The PMI-RMP is valid for three years from the date of certification. To maintain it, you earn 30 PDUs in risk management topics within each three-year continuing certification requirements cycle and pay the renewal fee to PMI.

Is the PMI-RMP recognised in Zambia?

Yes. As a PMI credential, the RMP is recognised by employers in Zambia and worldwide. It is especially valued in high-risk sectors such as mining, energy, construction and financial services, where formal project risk management is expected on major work.

    Pricing

What is included in the PMI-RMP course fee?

Your training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, 32 contact hours of risk management education, practice questions, full-length mock exams, application guidance and learner support. Talk to a learning advisor for the full inclusions on your chosen format.

How much does PMI-RMP training cost in Zambia?

Training price depends on the format you choose, such as live online or corporate group training, and is available on request. The PMI exam fee is billed separately by PMI and is not part of the training fee. Request a quote for current pricing and any group offers.

How much is the PMI-RMP exam fee?

PMI bills the exam fee in US dollars under regional pricing, approximately USD 520 for PMI members and USD 670 for non-members. These figures are for reference only, so verify the current fees at pmi.org before you apply. PMI membership can reduce the exam cost.

Do you offer group or corporate discounts for RMP training?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for project teams, PMOs and risk functions. Contact us for a tailored quote for your organisation in Zambia.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-RMP exam?

The PMI-RMP exam has 115 questions and a duration of 2.5 hours (150 minutes). It is closed book, using single-answer and multiple-answer multiple-choice questions, and is based on the PMI-RMP Examination Content Outline effective January 2022.

What are the exam domains and their weights?

The exam covers five domains per the ECO: Risk Strategy and Planning (20%), Risk Identification (20%), Risk Analysis (23%), Risk Response (22%) and Monitor and Close Risks (15%). The training covers all five in depth.

What is the passing score for the PMI-RMP exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score that is not published as a fixed number. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all five domains.

How many attempts do I get if I do not pass first time?

You are permitted up to three attempts within the one-year eligibility period that begins when PMI approves your application. Re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts; confirm the current amounts at pmi.org.

Where can I take the PMI-RMP exam?

You can sit the exam online through Pearson VUE's OnVUE proctored system from home or the office, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. Scheduling is done through the Pearson VUE website or PMI's portal within your eligibility period.

    Course Content

Do I need prior experience to take this training?

Anyone can enrol in the training. To sit the exam, PMI requires risk management experience and education, ranging from 12 to 36 months of experience depending on your degree, plus 30 to 40 hours of risk education. The programme suits both new and experienced risk professionals.

What topics does the RMP training cover?

The training covers the five risk domains: Risk Strategy and Planning, Risk Identification, Risk Analysis, Risk Response, and Monitor and Close Risks. It includes qualitative and quantitative tools such as the probability and impact matrix, Monte Carlo simulation and expected monetary value.

Does this training meet the PMI education requirement?

Yes. The programme provides 32 contact hours of risk management education, which fully meets the 30-hour requirement for Set B (bachelor's degree) and Set C (GAC-accredited degree) candidates. Set A candidates need 40 hours and should add at least 8 further hours.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions mapped to the 115-question exam format, full-length mock exams and topic-wise quizzes, so you can identify weak areas and build readiness across all five domains.

Is the courseware aligned to the latest RMP syllabus?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the PMI-RMP Examination Content Outline effective January 2022 and draws on the PMI Practice Standard for Project Risk Management and the current PMBOK Guide, covering predictive, agile and hybrid risk approaches.
