    General

What is the Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) certification?

The Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) is Scrum Alliance's entry-level Scrum Master certification. It validates your understanding of the Scrum framework, the Scrum Master role, and the values that make agile teams effective. It is the most widely recognized Scrum Master credential worldwide, with over one million certificates issued.

Who should take the CSM certification?

The CSM suits aspiring Scrum Masters, developers, testers, business analysts, and project managers moving into agile delivery. There are no formal education or work-experience requirements, so it works for professionals new to Scrum or those formalizing existing experience.

Is the CSM worth it for professionals in Anchorage?

Yes. As Anchorage employers in healthcare, energy and telecom adopt agile delivery, demand for certified Scrum Masters is rising. Scrum Masters in Alaska earn around $121,000 on average, and the credential is recognized by employers across every sector.

Do I need to attend a course to earn the CSM?

Yes. Attendance at an approved CSM course delivered by a Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Trainer (CST) is mandatory. The exam cannot be accessed without completing an approved course, which is why the training is a required first step.

How long is the CSM certification valid?

The CSM is valid for two years. To renew, you earn 16 Scrum Education Units (SEUs) and pay the Scrum Alliance membership renewal fee within each two-year cycle.

What is the next step after the CSM?

The Advanced Certified ScrumMaster (A-CSM) is the next level in the Scrum Alliance Scrum Master track. The CSM is the mandatory prerequisite, and A-CSM also requires experience in a Scrum Master role after certifying.

    Pricing

How much does CSM training cost in Anchorage?

CSM training fees vary by format and provider, and the Scrum Alliance exam fee is typically included in the course fee paid to the training organization. For current Anchorage pricing and group rates, request a quote from a learning advisor.

What is included in the CSM course fee?

The fee typically includes Scrum Alliance aligned courseware, instruction by a Certified Scrum Trainer, case studies, practice guidance, and access to the CSM online exam. A two-year Scrum Alliance membership is included on completing the course.

Is the exam fee included in the training price?

For the CSM, the online exam fee is usually bundled into the course fee paid to the training provider, since the exam unlocks only after you complete an approved course. Confirm the exact inclusions when you enroll or request a quote.

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customized schedules and volume-based pricing for delivery teams and departments. Contact us for a tailored quote for your Anchorage team.

    What payment options are available?

    Exam

What is the format of the CSM exam?

The CSM exam is an open-book, online, multiple-choice test taken through the Scrum Alliance member portal after you complete an approved course. It is based on the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives and the current Scrum Guide.

How many questions are on the CSM exam and how long is it?

The exam has 50 multiple-choice questions and a time limit of 60 minutes. It is open book and taken online without a proctor.

What is the passing score for the CSM exam?

You need 74% to pass, which means answering at least 37 of the 50 questions correctly. The training and practice materials help you prepare to reach that mark.

How many attempts do I get for the CSM exam?

Candidates typically have three attempts to pass within 90 days of completing the course. If you do not pass at first, your course materials and practice questions help you prepare to retake it.

You can access the CSM online exam through your Scrum Alliance member portal within 90 days of completing the approved course. Because it is open book and online, you can sit it when you feel ready inside that window.
