What Is the CSM Certification and Who Is It For?Your Route into the Scrum Master Role

The Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) is Scrum Alliance's foundational certification for professionals who want to lead agile teams as a Scrum Master. It validates your grasp of the Scrum framework, the Scrum Master role, and the values that make Scrum teams effective, and it is the most widely recognized Scrum Master credential worldwide. Delivered in Portland as instructor-led live online and classroom training, this course is taught by a Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Trainer (CST) and aligned to the current Scrum Guide (November 2020 edition) and the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives. You learn empiricism and the three pillars, the five Scrum events, the three artifacts, and servant leadership, then sit the online CSM exam after the course. It suits aspiring Scrum Masters, developers and testers on Scrum teams, and project managers moving to agile delivery across Portland's technology, healthcare and apparel sectors. Passing includes a two-year Scrum Alliance membership. Start your Scrum Master journey with Invensis Learning.

    General

What is the CSM certification and who is it for?

CSM is Scrum Alliance's entry-level Scrum Master certification. It validates your understanding of the Scrum framework, the Scrum Master role, and the values that make Scrum teams effective. It suits aspiring Scrum Masters, developers, testers and project managers moving into agile delivery.

Is the CSM certification worth it for Portland professionals?

Yes. CSM is the most widely recognized Scrum Master credential, and certified professionals earn roughly 24% more on average. Scrum Master roles in Portland average about $130,000 a year, with Agile Coach and senior roles paying more.

Do I need to attend a course to earn the CSM?

Yes. Scrum Alliance requires you to complete an approved CSM course delivered by a Certified Scrum Trainer before you can take the exam. Self-study alone does not qualify you to sit the exam.

How long is the CSM certification valid?

CSM is valid for two years. To renew, you earn 16 Scrum Education Units (SEUs) and pay the Scrum Alliance membership renewal fee within each two-year cycle.

What is the next step after CSM?

The Advanced Certified ScrumMaster (A-CSM) is the next level in the Scrum Alliance Scrum Master track. CSM is the mandatory prerequisite, and A-CSM also requires at least 12 months in a Scrum Master role.

    Is the CSM recognized internationally?

Yes. CSM is the world's most widely recognized Scrum Master credential, with over one million certificates issued, and Scrum Alliance operates across all industries and regions.

    Pricing

Do you offer group or corporate discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customized schedules and volume-based pricing for teams and departments. Contact us for a tailored group quote.

The CSM exam has 50 multiple-choice questions and a 60-minute time limit. It is taken online without a proctor after you finish the approved course.

What is the passing score for the CSM exam?

You need 74% to pass, which is 37 correct answers out of 50 questions. Because the exam is open book, focus on understanding the Scrum framework rather than memorizing.

When can I take the CSM exam?

You can access the online exam through your Scrum Alliance member portal within 90 days of completing the approved CSM course.

What happens if I do not pass the first time?
